Considered the original delay stompbox, analog delay pedals replaced most tape delays by the late 70s and early 80s due to their practical form factor and more efficient design. Shortly after, digital delays took over, relegating analog delays to second place on the totem pole, due in part to their different delay times.
Fast forward to recent years and analog delays have made a comeback. Players rediscovered their warmer, darker sound that works perfectly to complement contemporary music.
