X-Series Multi Chorus

Das Electro Harmonix Oceans 12 ist ein Stereo-Reverb-Pedal, das, wie der Name schon erahnen lässt, mit gleich 12 verschiedenen Reverb-Modi den Spieler beglücken möchte. Damit hat das Oceans 12 im Gegensatz zum seinem ebenfalls von uns getesteten Vorgänger, dem Oceans 11, noch einen Algorithmus mehr an Bord. Viel entscheidender ist aber die Möglichkeit, gleich zwei Reverbs parallel oder in Serie zu schalten, und das in Stereo.

The EHX Oceans 12 is the Oceans 11’s big brother with even more reverbs and functionality. It features two simultaneous, independent, stereo reverb engines, series and parallel control for the dual reverbs, 24 presets and advanced I/O allowing for stereo in/out or mono send/return with pre and post reverb options. The pedal also includes a new Tide Control for stereo image alteration, a Lo-fi Control, an infinite attenuation control and an input jack for external expression and 3-button footswitch control.

A Tails switch provides a choice of whether the reverb effect fades out naturally or stops immediately when the pedal is switched to bypass. In most settings the pedal is also capable of producing infinite reverb which can be played over with a different reverb effect.

The Oceans 12’s reverbs are:
• ROOM – two modes: reverb algorithms modeled after a lively room and a spacious performance hall
• SPRING – two modes: vintage 1962 Fender® 6G15 tube reverb emulation and the spring algorithm from the EHX Holy Grail
• PLATE – two modes: two emulations of the smooth, metal plate reverb often used in high-end recording studios during the 1960s and ‘70s
• REVERSE – two modes: a reverse reverb effect as well as true reversed echoes
• ECHO – three modes: a digital delay with various echo rhythms feeding into a plate reverb
• TREM – three modes: a classic, periodic volume envelope with various shapes applied to both the wet and dry mix of a hall reverb
• MOD – three modes: combinations of chorus and flange reverbs that create rich reverb tails
• DYNA – three dynamic, experimental reverb algorithms: swell, gate and duck
• AUTO-INF – three modes: auto-infinite reverb (w/optional chorus or flange) that “listens” to your playing and crossfades to a new reverb wash upon detection of newly struck notes.
• SHIMMER – two modes: two configurations of a rich octave-shifted reverb wash
• POLYPHONIC – two modes: two configurable bi-directional pitch shifts that add dimensionality to the reverb tail
• RESONANT – two modes: reverb excited by tunable resonators and configurable self-oscillating filters on the reverb tail

The Ascension Reverb was designed to assist users in the creation of inspiring layers of ambiance in a simplistic, yet distinct manner. The Ascension reverb contains three modes: Hall, Modulated Hall, & Shimmer. It also has the added capability to layer-in ambient octaves under the guitar signal to enrich the sound and smooth live performance song transitions via the onboard pad volume roller knob. 

The Reverb unit offers three controls: Height, Ethos, and Mix. On all modes Height adjusts the decay time and mix adjusts the reverb signal while the ethos knob adjusts the Tone, Modulation Rate, or Shimmer Amount based on the respective mode that is activated. The Ascension Reverb has three footswitches: master bypass, one switch to toggle on/off the underlying pad signal and a third switch to designate what key the underlying pad signal should be in (A, Bb, B, C, Db, etc…). An effects loop exists for the pad signal, this allows users to route the pad to an external mixing desk to be controlled externally or to route the pad through modulation pedals such as chorus, pitch shift, or tremolo for even more textural depth.

Triple Threat starts with a wide-range high gain distortion, with volume, gain, and tone controls to create a threatening rock sound. A classic phaser upgraded from the Pearl Tremor pedal by Donner is next with extended mod controls. Third in line is an analog voiced echo, originated from Donner’s first ever pedal, the Yellow Fall Delay released in 2013,  with warm analog tone and rich feedback. 

With upgraded circuit design and tuning the tone to Jack’s specifications, Donner combined three analog circuits into one metal enclosure, delivering unique analog sounds and versatile utility for musicians on the go. Third Man Hardware designed the external appearance of The Triple Threat, adding its signature patterns such as lightning bolts from the Tesla tower on the panel, three sharp stripes in front and  the signature diagrams from Third Man Hardware’s logo on both sides of the pedal.

Grundlage ist eine komplett neu entwickelte Schaltung mit parallelem Clean-Blend in Studioqualität, die Obertöne, leichte Kompression und Durchsetzungskraft des Overdrives mit dem vollen Bass- und Dynamikumfang des Clean-Signals kombiniert.

Der Clean-Regler arbeitet nicht als einfacher Mischregler, sondern ist integraler Bestandteil der Schaltung. Ein Doppelpotentiometer sorgt dafür, dass Clean- und Drive-Signal über alle Gain-Einstellungen hinweg proportional und phasenstabil zusammenlaufen – ohne Lautstärkesprünge. Der Tone-Regler wirkt ausschließlich auf den Overdrive-Pfad, das Clean-Signal bleibt jederzeit unverändert. Eine ±9V-Doppelversorgung bietet deutlich mehr Headroom als klassische Bluesbreaker-Schaltungen und ermöglicht einen klaren, offenen Sound bei jeder Lautstärke.

The Morning Glory Clean is a logical evolution of the classic Morning Glory overdrive. The goal was to further improve transparency, dynamics, and attack without losing its familiar character. At its core is a completely redesigned circuit with a studio-quality parallel clean blend, combining the harmonics, subtle compression, and punch of the overdrive with the full bass and dynamic range of the clean signal.

The clean control isn't a simple mix control; it's an integral part of the circuit. A dual potentiometer ensures that the clean and drive signals blend proportionally and in phase across all gain settings—without any volume jumps. The tone control affects only the overdrive path; the clean signal remains unchanged at all times. A ±9V dual power supply provides significantly more headroom than classic Bluesbreaker circuits, delivering a clear, open sound at any volume.

The Morning Glory Clean is suitable as a first overdrive stage, as a dynamic always-on sound, before distortion or delay pedals, and before amp modelers. Thanks to the clean blend control, it's also versatile for bass. The Tube Drive™ overdrive pedal contains three twin-triode vacuum tubes operating at real amp plate voltage (300 V DC!). The cascaded six-stage tube circuitry is precision-biased to generate highly symmetrical clipping distortion. The sound is immense, harmonically-saturated and super-smooth, able to go from mild bluesy breakup to full-on blistering distortion. It features an all-tube signal path, an active “Baxandall” tone stack (with zero insertion loss), and an active Bass Boost contour for added low end.
