EQ-201 Preamp

PREAMP

Description

The EQ-201 is a faithful recreation of the transistor preamp found at the input of the infamous 1970s Space Echo. On old Space Echos, the preamp circuit is always active. Its warm coloration found its way onto countless songs and performances, even ones with no audible delay. Watch any Radiohead gig from 1997 to 2009, and if Jonny picks up his guitar you’ll probably hear a Space Echo preamp. It wasn’t just “color” though: the preamp has a ton of gain on tap, so many guitarists set it to push their tube amps into overdrive. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner reportedly uses a tape-less Space Echo exclusively as a boost for his amps!
