Der White Widow ist unser Silizium-Fuzz. Er ist der Sohn einer speziellen Version des Big Muff Pi der späten 70er Jahre, des schwersten und schrägsten Big Muffs, der zwei Jahrzehnte später eine ganze Generation von Gitarristen verführte, die diese Pedale so sehr liebten, dass sie ihre gesamten Konzerte damit verbrachten, sie anzustarren.

Aber das Kind wuchs und bekam seine eigene Persönlichkeit, dynamischer und vielseitiger. Manchmal klingt es wie ein düsterer Fuzz. Ein anderes Mal wie eine schwere Verzerrung. Es gibt Zeiten, da klingt es ein bisschen wie ein beschädigter Vorverstärker. Und es gibt Zeiten, da klingt er wie ein Overdrive. Sein Ton reicht von einem klassischen Fuzz im Stil der 70er Jahre, wie bei Gilmour, bis hin zu den Fuzz-Wänden des Alternative Rock der 90er Jahre.
Dies wurde möglich, weil es zwei Verzerrungsregler hat: Der Pre-Regler ist ein Vorverstärkungseingang und der Fuzz-Regler steuert die Verstärkung der Hauptstufe des Fuzz-Pedals. Die Kombination dieser beiden Regler ermöglicht eine breite Palette von Sounds: Wenn das Fuzz auf Null gestellt ist, wirkt der Pre-Regler wie ein Overdrive-Regler, der eine Art gutmütigen Sound erzeugt. Wenn man den Fuzz aufdreht, verändert der Pre-Regler die Fuzz-Textur durch eine starke, schamlose Verzerrung, bis man einen brutalen Fuzz erhält, wie ihn nur Silizium-Fuzz kann. Wenn du alle Regler auf den maximalen Pegel drehst, erhältst du eine unbezwingbare Krachmacher-Maschine.

Der Tone-Regler ist sehr ausdrucksstark, er zieht den Sound zu zerrissenen Höhen oder für einen ernsthaften, vollmundigen Sound. Aber das große Geheimnis ist der Mid-Regler, der den Mittelwert regelt und den charakteristischen Mitten-Scoop des Big Muffs erzeugt oder den Mittelwert anhebt, so dass dein Ton zwischen anderen Instrumenten besser zur Geltung kommt. Diese beiden Regler sind sehr interaktiv, du kannst deinen Sound genau so aufpeppen, wie du willst.

Wie bei jedem guten Fuzz fehlt es ihm nicht an Lautstärke und er interagiert sehr gut mit dem Lautstärkeregler an deiner Gitarre.

The White Widow is our silicon fuzz. He is the son of a special version of the Big Muff Pi of the late 70s, the heaviest and weirdest of Big Muffs, who, two decades later, seduced an entire generation of guitarists who were so fond of the pedals that spent their entire concerts staring at them.  

But the child grew, and got its own personality, more dynamic and versatile. There are times it sounds like a sinister fuzz. Other times like a heavy distortion. There are times it sounds a bit like a damaged pre-amp. And there are times it sounds like an overdrive. Its tone goes from a classic fuzz, 70’s style, Gilmourish style, until the fuzz walls of the alternative rock of the 90s.  

This was made possible because it has two distortion controls: The Pre, which is a pre-gain input and the Fuzz, that controls the gain of the main level of the fuzz pedal. The combination of these two controls allows an extensive range of sounds: With the fuzz zeroed, the Pre seems like an overdrive control, generating a kind of well behaved sound. When you open the fuzz, the Pre control changes the fuzz texture, through a strong shameless distortion, until you get a brutal fuzz that only silicon fuzz is capable of. When you turn all controls to the maximum level, you get an indomitable noise-making machine.  

The Tone control is very expressive, it pulls the sound to a torn treble or for a serious full-bodied one. But the big secret here is the Mid control, which controls the average, producing the Big Muffs characteristic mid-scoop, or increasing the average, so your tone gets more visible amongst other instruments. These two controls are very interactive, you can spice up your sound exactly as you want.  

Like any good fuzz, it doesn’t lack volume and interacts very well with the volume control on your guitar.

Der Amp ist ein respektvoller Treble Booster, der perfekt zu Röhrenverstärkern und Fuzz-Pedalen passt. In seinem Herzen befindet sich ein Germanium-Relikt aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion. In der Nullstellung dämpft er das Signal ab. Bei 10 liefert er 20 dB Wärme und reißt den Ton von allem, was hinter ihm steht. Der Amp ist unser Treble Booster. In seinem Herzen steckt ein kolossaler Germanium-Transistor, der jahrzehntelang vergessen in der Ukraine darauf wartete, endlich etwas Aufregendes mit seinem Leben anfangen zu können. Dieser Transistor wird mit einer einfachen und eleganten Schaltung auf die Spitze getrieben, was zu einem klassischen Vintage-Ton führt (basierend auf dem zeitlosen Dallas Rangemaster). Er ist nicht böse, aber auch nicht schön: Er erhöht nicht nur die Lautstärke, sondern füllt den Klang mit Charakter und erzeugt eine leichte Verzerrung, die für diesen Transistortyp charakteristisch ist. Es hebt auch die Höhen hervor und verleiht dem Sound einen funkelnden Glanz und viel Präsenz. 

Es ist ein einfaches Pedal, aber es macht sicherlich einen großen Unterschied. Am Ende der Pedalkette ist es ein großartiger Lautstärkebooster für Soli. Aber der farbige Ton passt auch gut zu allem, was danach kommt - wie Fuzzes und Röhren. Wenn man den Amp vor einem Fuzz platziert, fungiert er als Tone-Texture-Regler für das andere Pedal. Vor einem Röhrenverstärker wird nicht nur die Lautstärke und das Gain erhöht, sondern man hört auch die Röhren auf eine völlig ungewohnte Art und Weise brüllen, anders als man es gewohnt ist. Ab Juli 2016 verfügt der Amp über einen internen Regler, mit dem man einstellen kann, wie stark man die Höhen anheben möchte. Er reicht von 120 Hz, als flachere Verstärkung, bis zur Werkseinstellung von 500 Hz, die einen feurigen Ton à la Brian May, Tony Iommi, Rory Gallagher und Co. erzeugt... Wir haben uns in den Germanium-Transistor des Amps verliebt (derselbe, der auch in der Mother of Fuzz verwendet wird). Sie werden nicht mehr hergestellt.

The Amp is a respectful treble booster that matches perfectly with tube amps and fuzz pedals. In its heart lies a germanium relic, from the former Soviet Union. When zeroed, it attenuates the signal. At 10, it supplies 20dB of heat, tearing the tone of anything that stands after it. The Amp is our treble booster. In its heart lies a colossal germanium transistor whom spent decades forgotten in Ukraine just waiting for the time when it would finally be able to do something exciting with its life. This transistor is pushed to the extreme with a simple and elegant circuit, resulting into a vintage, classic tone (based in the timeless Dallas Rangemaster). It isn’t evil, but it ain’t nice: In addition to increasing the volume, it fills the sound with character, creating a slight distortion, characteristic of this type of transistor. It also accentuates the trebles, bringing a sound full of sparkle and with a lot of presence. It is a simple pedal, but it surely makes a lot of difference. At the end of the pedal chain it is a great volume booster for solos. But the colored tone also goes well with whatever comes after it – like fuzzes and tubes. If you place the Amp in front of a fuzz, it acts as a tone texture control to the other pedal. In front of a tube amp, besides increasing the volume and gain you will hear the valves roar in a completely unusual manner, different from whatever it is that you are used to. From July 2016, the Amp comes with an internal control that lets you dial how much highs you want to boost. It goes from 120 Hz, as a flatter amplification, up to its factory default of 500 Hz, giving that fiercy tone à la Brian May, Tony Iommi, Rory Gallagher and friends… We have fallen in love with the Amp’s germanium transistor (the same used in the Mother of fuzz). They are no longer manufactured.

The Octopus is a monophonic octave, it uses an analog circuit to produce lower and higher octaves. That is, your signal is never converted into zeros, this makes this pedal sound truly unique. The octave-down is a strong, full-bodied bass as the octave-up is a sharp treble.

As it is monophonic, it traces one note at a time â€“ especially when using the lower octave. The truth is, you will not need to play more notes when its playing for you, filling the sound spectrum with its octaves and their harmonics. It traces skillfully the largest part of the scale, especially the area between the 5th and 17th houses, which respond very well to both octaves. Also a stunner on the bass, generating that sub-grave staggering bass.

The sound of Octopus is absolutely more interesting than all the digital octavers out there. Its bass octave is insanely fat and organic, it really sounds like a strong Bass, or a 2.5 to 5.4 magnitude earthquake depending on the frequency. The sound of its treble octave goes from a behaved tone to that strident octave, well noticed and full of harmonics, more like a 60s fuzz. This natural versatility contrasts with the tone of digital octavers, that sound artificial and sterile.

Octopus

Der Juice ist unser Clean Booster. Er erhöht die Lautstärke und bietet bis zu 20 dB an sauberer Verstärkung. Er allein verzerrt nicht, aber er gibt eine schwindelerregende Lautstärkeverstärkung, die in der Lage ist, alles zu sättigen... nun ja, alles, was du hinter ihn stellst.

Es handelt sich um einen MoSFET-Verstärker der Klasse A, der eine Injektion von Volumen, Körper oder Helligkeit liefert - ganz wie du willst. Dies geschieht in seinem speziell entwickelten Filter, der drei verschiedene Konfigurationen mit einem einzigen Schalter ermöglicht. Daher hat er eigentlich drei Funktionen: Ein Bass Booster, der einen vollmundigen Sound erzeugt, ein Treble Booster, der bei Soli für Helligkeit sorgt, und in der Mittelstellung ein Clean Booster, der die Lautstärke aller Frequenzen erhöht.

The Juice is our clean booster. It increases the volume, providing up to 20 dB of clean gain. It alone does not distort, but it gives a staggering volume gain capable of saturating… well, anything you put after it.

It is a MoSFET class A amplifier, provides an injection of volume, body or brightness — as you please. This happens inside its specially designed filter, allowing three different configurations in a single switch. Therefore, it has actually three functions: A Bass Booster, producing a full-bodied sound, a Treble Booster, bringing brightness during solos, and at the center position, a Clean Booster, which increases the volume all frequencies.

Die Mutter des Fuzz ist unser Germanium-Fuzz. Seine Transistoren verbrachten dreißig eisige Winter in der Sowjetunion. Sie sahen zu, wie der Kalte Krieg ihr Heimatland in der Ukraine veränderte, und jetzt sind sie den ganzen Weg in die tropischen Länder Brasiliens gekommen, um ein viel helleres Ziel zu finden, als das, was seine Schöpfer im Sinn hatten: Den Klang deiner Gitarre zu verändern.

Sein Schaltkreis hat seine Wurzeln in den Vintage-Fuzzes der 60er Jahre, insbesondere in den legendären Tone Benders. Sein Filter ist eine vielseitige Klangregelung. In der Maximalstellung hat es durchdringende, messerscharfe Tracks, in der Minimalstellung ist es sehr bassig und liefert einen Ton, der so schwer wie ein Elefant ist und alle Nuancen dazwischen durchläuft.

Das Mother of Fuzz wurde für eine stratosphärische Verstärkung entwickelt. Wenn der Fuzz-Regler auf Null steht, ist er bereits ziemlich heavy, und wenn man den Regler aufdreht, verändert sich vor allem die Klangfarbe des Fuzz. Warum so viel Gain? Wie bei jedem guten Fuzz, vor allem bei den Germanium-Fuzzs, kann man das Fuzz durch Drehen des Lautstärkereglers der Gitarre fast vollständig reinigen, so dass eine zusätzliche Verstärkung der Schaltung sie vielseitiger macht. Wenn man einen weniger verzerrten Ton will, muss man nur die Lautstärke der eigenen Gitarre reduzieren, wie es die Großen einst taten, und das Pedal wird sauberer, ohne an Volumen zu verlieren.

The Mother of Fuzz is our Germanium fuzz. Its transistors spent thirty icy winters in Soviet Union. They watched the Cold War change their homeland, in Ukraine, and now they came all the way to the tropical lands of Brazil, to find a final destination much brighter than what its creators had in mind: To transform the sound of your guitar.

Its circuit has its roots in the vintage fuzzes of the 60s, specifically the legendary Tone Benders. Its filter is a versatile tone control. At the maximum, it has piercing trables, sharp as knives, and at the minimum it is very bassy, delivering a tone as heavy as an elephant, going through every shade in between.

The Mother of Fuzz was designed to have a stratospheric gain. With the Fuzz knob at zero, it is already quite heavy, and by turning the control up, it mainly changes the timbre of the fuzz. Why so much gain? For as every good fuzz, specially the Germanium ones, by rolling the guitar’s volume knob, you can almost completely clean the fuzz, so an extra gain on the circuit makes it more versatile. If you want a less distorted tone, just decrease the volume of your own guitar, as the Great ones once did, and the pedal becomes cleaner, without losing volume.
