Über vierzig Jahre nachdem das originale VOX Wah den Sound der Rockmusik für immer veränderte, erlebt das V846 als V846-HW Hand-Wired Wah-Pedal eine Renaissance. Sein klassischer Sound ist unbestreitbar, doch das V846-HW wurde nicht entwickelt, um die Geschichte der Vergangenheit zu wiederholen, sondern um in der Zukunft neue Kapitel zu schreiben. Over forty years after the original VOX Wah forever changed the sound of rock music, the V846 has been reborn as the V846-HW Hand-Wired Wah Wah Pedal. While its classic tone is undeniable, the V846-HW was not created to simply repeat the history of the past, but to write new chapters in the future. As its name implies, the V846 Hand Wired boasts hand-wired turret board construction. But VOX didn’t stop there. Die Walrus Audio Julia ist ein komplett analoges Chorus/Vibrato-Pedal, das mit einigen Besonderheiten aufwarten kann. Obwohl es sich bei den beiden um alteingesessene Standard-Effektsounds handelt, versteht es der amerikanische Boutique-Hersteller, mit einigen Extras jenseits der Norm Interesse zu wecken.
So auch bei der Julia, bei der beispielsweise fließend mit einem Blend-Regler zwischen Chorus und Vibrato gewechselt werden kann. Dazu lässt ein Schalter die Wahl, den LFO zu Sinus- oder Dreieck-Wellenformen zu überreden. Was diese Funktionen klanglich bewirken, schauen wir uns im Folgenden an.

The Julia is a fully analog, feature-rich chorus/vibrato packed with a wide array of tonal landscapes begging to be explored. Updated for 2020, Julia now has top mounted jacks, soft switch bypassing and updated art from Adam Forster. 

Julia is able to produce mild smooth chorus, to seasick vibrato and everywhere in between. With controls like Lag, Dry-Chorus-Vibrato Blend, and selectable analog LFO wave shapes, you are able to dial in all types of classic and unique chorus/vibrato sounds; some settings giving a familiar feel while others are not found on traditional chorus pedals.

A special feature of the Julia is the Lag control. The Lag knob lets you set the center delay time that the LFO effect modulates from. From smooth and tight modulation at lower settings, to warbling detune at maximum, the Lag knob adds a new dimension to the traditional Chorus/Vibrato landscape.

Andy Timmons, long-time user and fan of the Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter, suggested to Carl to create a Compressor/Limiter with two presets, so that he had a preset for more subtle rhythm parts, and a preset with more hard compression and sustain for other parts as solos without having to take up real-estate on the board for two Compressor/Limiters.

Andy Timmons, langjähriger Nutzer und Fan des Carl-Martin-Kompressors/Limiters, schlug Carl vor, einen Kompressor/Limiter mit zwei Presets zu entwickeln, damit er über ein Preset für subtilere Rhythmusparts und ein Preset mit stärkerer Kompression und mehr Sustain für andere Parts wie Soli verfügen würde, ohne Platz auf dem Mischpult für zwei Kompressoren/Limiter beanspruchen zu müssen.

When we released our original Compressor back in 2011, it quickly became a favourite among guitar and bass players alike who were searching for something more than the typical oversimplified controls found on most compressor pedals. Although our original Compressor sounded great on bass (and still does!) we set out to do even better. 
On top of the full range of features and controls normally only seen in high end studio equipment, such as input and gain reduction metering, independent attack and release controls, a mix knob for parallel compression, and an external sidechain insert, we’ve now added a fully variable sidechain high pass filter, and a two position ‘tone + colour’ circuit which adds gentle tone sculpting and harmonic distortion, giving your bass some delicious character.

We no longer need to introduce this famous circular fuzz pedal, which produced the iconic sound of many guitarists in the 60’s.
With its two volume and gain controls forming a smiling face, it offers a unique sound going from a creamy and dynamic fuzz to a powerful and punchy fuzz with sharp trebles.

The extremely simple circuit offers a lot of space for customization, hence our own interpretation of the mythical pedal with the Feed Me.
The Feed Me mk3 is ultra versatile and customizable. You can get the classic sound of the 60’s model, rich in trebles and sustain.
But also a thick and fat fuzz, for more modern sounds close to stoner tones. Or a garage rock style gated fuzz by using the Crack and Smash controls for a velcro texture.
While remaining ultra expressive and responsive as always to the guitar’s volume and tone controls, with the Feed control, for warm cleans.
