Der Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster wurde 2002 veröffentlicht und kommt noch heute auf den Pedalboards von legendären Musikern wie George Lynch, Peter Frampton und Alex Skolnick zum Einsatz. Grundlage des Pedals ist ein Class A Low-Noise Schaltungs-Design, das es Musikern mit wenig Aufwand ermöglicht ihren Gitarren-Sound an die jeweiligen Anforderungen anzupassen. Das Pedal betont den ursprünglichen Charakter der Gitarre und fügt dezent etwas Druck und Kraft hinzu. Selbst mit einem Minimum an Gain klingt der Sound klarer und durch den integrierten Buffer wird einem Soundverlust bei langen Kabelwegen effektiv entgegengewirkt. Wie die erste Version bietet der Blackened Pickup Booster einen sauberen Boost ohne den Sound ungewollt zu verfälschen, bietet aber bei Bedarf auch die Möglichkeit das Voicing von Single Coil Pickups in Richtung Humbucker zu verschieben.

Originally released in 2002 and residing on the pedalboards of iconic musicians like George Lynch, Peter Frampton, and Alex Skolnick, the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster is a true-bypass pedal with a class A, low-noise circuit design, and can be used to dial in the tone you need for every situation. It will emphasize your guitar’s natural tone while adding some muscle and fatness. It uses a discrete push-pull output stage for increased drive capability so, even with the Gain knob down to 0 dB, your signal chain will sound cleaner – even with long cable runs – essentially acting as a buffer on your pedalboard. Like the original, this pedal is designed to boost your signal without altering the character of your guitar, while also hiding a few tone-shaping tricks up its sleeve. The updated version comes with a nice matte black chassis. The Pickup Booster is for when you love the sound of your guitar, but you need a little more: more output, more gain or just a little more control over your guitar’s voice without changing its fundamental character. Think of it as sending your guitar to the gym.

Ob das Seymour Duncan Killing Floor Boost/Overdrive-Pedal seinen Namen aus der Textzeile des Howlin’ Wolf Klassikers “Killing Floor” aus dem Jahre 1964 hat, ist nicht bekannt. Die Zeile “But no, I was foolin’ with ya baby. I let ya put me on the killin’ floor” jedenfalls thematisiert eine ziemlich schlechte Beziehung zu einer dominanten Frau, in der man sich lieber den Tod wünscht. Und in der Tat zeigt die Grafik auf dem Pedal einen rauchenden Pistolenlauf kurz nach dem Abfeuern.
