Der Whitey Tighty ist so simpel gehalten, dass er deinem Setup und deinem Sound nie im Weg steht, durch das kompakte Mini-Format lässt er sich außerdem problemlos in jedes Pedalboard integrieren. Durch die Möglichkeit Kompression und Clean Signal stufenlos zu mischen hat jeder die Chance seinen perfekten Sound zu finden. Das Pedal arbeitet mit drei intuitiven Regelmöglichkeiten für Volume, Compression und Blend. Mit dem Volume-Regler lässt sich das Level auf Unity Gain einstellen oder leicht boosten, um den wahrgenommenen Verlust durch die Kompression auszugleichen. Der Compression-Regler regelt die Stärke der Kompression von einer subtilen 'Glättung' des Signals bis zu einem ansprechenden Squash, der sich perfekt für Country, Blues, Pop und Rock eignet. Über den Blend-Regler kann man das Verhältnis aus Clean Signal und komprimiertem Signal einzustellen. Auf diese Weise erhält man den natürlichen Klang des Instruments und erhält gleichzeitig eine Kompression in Studioqualität, die deinen Sound auf die nächste Stufe hebt.

Das in Zusammenarbeit mit Stu Mackenzie von King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard entwickelte Effektgerät kombiniert zwei unabhängige Overdrive-/Distortion-Stufen mit einem eigenständigen Treble Booster, der auf der Rooster-Schaltung basiert. Die Architektur bildet das aggressive Übersteuerungsverhalten, die Kompression und die chaotische Ansprache eines kleinen Pfandhaus-Verstärkers nach, der bis zur extremen Sättigung betrieben wird. Der erste Gain-Kanal liefert heißen Overdrive bis Distortion, während die zweite Stufe dynamischen Low-Gain-Crunch abdeckt, wobei beide Stufen separat oder kaskadiert genutzt werden können. Eine gemeinsame aktive Bass- und Treble-Klangregelung ermöglicht eine umfassende Frequenzanpassung neben einem Master-Level-Potentiometer. Ein spezieller MAGIC-Schalter und ein Notch-Regler ermöglichen betonte Mitten-Boxiness, hohle Texturen und lo-fi-artige harmonische Verfärbungen. Drei Fußschalter ermöglichen die individuelle Aktivierung der Gain-Stufen sowie des Treble Boosters, unterstützt durch einen globalen Bypass-Modus.

Created in collaboration with Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, the gain unit combines two independent overdrive/distortion stages with an independent treble booster based on the Rooster circuit. The architecture replicates the aggressive breakup, compression, and chaotic behavior of a tiny pawnshop combo amplifier being pushed to extreme saturation. The first gain channel handles hotter overdrive through distortion, while the second stage covers dynamic low-gain grit, both capable of running separately or stacked. Shared active Bass and Treble equalizers provide comprehensive frequency shaping alongside a dedicated Master Level potentiometer. A dedicated MAGIC toggle and Notch control dial in pronounced midrange boxiness, hollow textures, and vintage-style lo-fi harmonic coloration. Three footswitches allow individual activation of the gain stages and treble booster, supported by a global bypass routing mode.

The Encounter is more than just a combination delay and reverb effects pedal - it is a fully loaded vessel of atmospheric discovery, thoughtfully designed to explore swirling celestial tones and deeply immersive soundscapes. The pedal features a control surface similar to Source Audio's now-legendary Collider Delay +Reverb, but while the Collider focused on classic sounds, the Encounter offers a wide-ranging collection of otherworldly and never-before-heard delay and reverb effects. All six delay and six reverb engines can be used individually or in pairs (that includes dual delay or dual reverb combinations) with full MIDI functionality and stereo ins & outs. Routing options include series, parallel, or split stereo.
Each footswitch engages or disengages its own effect, essentially providing the functionality of two separate pedals in one unit.
The Encounter Ambient Delay +Reverb's collection of effect engines features a powerful mix of brand-new sounds and modernized favorites from Source Audio's award-winning Ventris Dual Reverb and Nemesis Delay. New engines such as the Hypersphere reverb (which imagines the reverberations heard from an ever-expanding room free of walls, ceiling, or floor), Kaleidoscope delay (a cascading, harp-like effect), and Shimmers (a dual-pitched shimmer effect) are among the most beautiful and imaginative in Source Audio's history.

Dies ist wohl das berühmteste Beispiel für eine direkt an das Mischpult angeschlossen Gitarre, um den Sound, der mittlerweile als „Direct-In Distortion“ bezeichnet wird zu erreichen. Dieser Sound ist einer der einzigartigsten Gitarrensounds mit enormem Wiedererkennungswert, der in den letzten 60 Jahren unzählige Gitarristen und auch die JHS Colour Box inspiriert hat. Viele haben daraufhin eine etwas abgespeckte Version der Colour Box angefragt – eine schlichte Direct-in dirt box, ohne XLR, ohne 3-Band EQ… Einfach nur simplen Dirt. Also haben JHS einfach den Crayon aus der Colour Box herausgenommen…

In 1968 a piercing guitar tone came through the speakers on the Beatles “Revolution 1”. This is one of the most famous uses of plugging a guitar straight into a mixing console and creating the now referred to as “Direct-In Distortion". That tone is one of the most recognizable and unique guitar tones of the last 60 years and was one of the inspirations for the JHS Colour Box that we released in May of 2014. Many players over the last few years have expressed their interest in a unit that is like the Colour Box but more streamlined for the one basic application of a dirt box. No XLR function, no 3 band EQ… Just the dirt in an easy to use format for guitarists… So JHS decided to pull the Crayon out of the Colour Box.
