Engineers Thumb Compressor

COMPRESSOR
Description
This utility unit is a highly versatile, low-noise analog compressor kit engineered for guitarists and bassists seeking studio-grade dynamic control. Designed by Merlin Blencowe, known as "The Valve Wizard," the circuit is centered around an LM13700 dual operational transconductance amplifier integrated circuit, which operates as a functional equivalent to the vintage CA3080 chip found in traditional compressor topologies. The design achieves exceptionally high compression ratios and substantial sustain while minimizing the inherent background hiss often found in vintage designs. Depending on the user's chosen hardware configuration, the architecture can handle up to five parameter controls spanning attack, ratio, threshold, release, and output level. This flexible design allows players to dial in transparent leveling, fast transient clamping, or a pleasant subtle saturation at extreme release settings.Media
