Einer der Ausgänge liefert das unverfälschte True Bypass Signal, der andere das volle Ausklingen der Modulation – werden beide Outputs genutzt, so resultiert daraus eine beeindruckende Stereo-Bandbreite.

Drei Verstärkungsstufen und eine aktive Klangregelung sorgen für massives Sustain sowie eine dichte, körnige Fuzz-Textur. Ein dedizierter Tone-Bypass-Schalter nimmt die Klangregelung vollständig aus dem Signalweg und liefert einen ungefilterten, mittenbetonten Boost mit höherer Lautstärke und rohem Biss. Der ursprüngliche Entwickler Howard Davis arbeitete mit Electro-Harmonix und The Smashing Pumpkins-Frontmann Billy Corgan zusammen, um den Sound dieser Neuauflage zu verfeinern und zu authentifizieren. In einem robusten Druckgussgehäuse untergebracht, liefert das Pedal die charakteristische Mittenabsenkung für eine massive Soundwand und bietet gleichzeitig umschaltbare klangliche Flexibilität zur Durchsetzung im Live-Mix.

Utilizing operational amplifiers rather than traditional discrete transistors, this distortion/fuzz reissue faithfully reconstructs the late-1970s V4 and V5 circuit variations famously relied upon for the crushing rhythm sounds of 1990s alternative rock. Three gain stages and an active tone control provide massive sustain alongside a dense, gritty fuzz texture. A dedicated tone-bypass switch completely removes the tone stack from the circuit, yielding an unfiltered mid-forward boost with increased volume and raw bite. Original designer Howard Davis collaborated with Electro-Harmonix and The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan to refine and authenticate the sound of this reissue. Housed in a die-cast enclosure, it delivers the signature scooped wall of sound while offering switchable tone flexibility for cutting through live mixes.

The OCD was the first pedal to use Mosfets as clipping devices. Another first was their configuration as "hard clippers connected to v-ref" instead of to ground, as was the norm. These things contribute greatly as to why the OCD has such touch-sensitivity...why they react so well when the strings are hit hard or soft, and why they sound & feel different than all other pedals out there, 90% of which are just slight tweaks of the Tube Screamer.

Edward Van Halen's Gitarrensound auf dem Debüt Album von1978 katapultierte ihn schlagartig in dem Olymp des Rock und selbst nach mehr als 25 Jahren hat die Gitarrenarbeit auf diesem Album nichts von ihrer Faszination eingebüßt. Den unglaublichen Sound, den EVH auf dieser Platte kreierte, gehört zu den absoluten Meilensteinen des Rock und ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieses Sounds war von vornherein der MXR Phase 90. Der Phase 90 trug maßgeblich zu den zeitlosen Gitarrensounds von “Eruption,“ “Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,“ “On Fire,“ und “Atomic Punk“, sowie vieler anderer klassischer Van Halen Stücke bei. Entstanden aus einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Eddie Van Halen und Jim Dunlop ist der EVH 90 eine komplett neu designte Version des legendären Phase 90. Der EVH 90 zeigt genau die gleichen räumlichen Klangverwirbelungen und hypnotischen Phasenverschiebungen, die den Phase 90 so berühmt machten.
