The EVH 5150 Chorus is based on a legendary chorus unit that Eddie used to add texture and dimension to some of his most classic recordings from the early 1980s. It has a simple three-knob setup—Volume, Tone, and Intensity—with Input and Output Level pad switches, mono and stereo outputs, and an internal True/Buffered Bypass switch for modern rig flexibility. Combine this pedal with the 5150 Overdrive for a huge sound that's thick and chewy.

Edward Van Halen's Gitarrensound auf dem Debüt Album von1978 katapultierte ihn schlagartig in dem Olymp des Rock und selbst nach mehr als 25 Jahren hat die Gitarrenarbeit auf diesem Album nichts von ihrer Faszination eingebüßt. Den unglaublichen Sound, den EVH auf dieser Platte kreierte, gehört zu den absoluten Meilensteinen des Rock und ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieses Sounds war von vornherein der MXR Phase 90. Der Phase 90 trug maßgeblich zu den zeitlosen Gitarrensounds von “Eruption,“ “Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,“ “On Fire,“ und “Atomic Punk“, sowie vieler anderer klassischer Van Halen Stücke bei. Entstanden aus einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Eddie Van Halen und Jim Dunlop ist der EVH 90 eine komplett neu designte Version des legendären Phase 90. Der EVH 90 zeigt genau die gleichen räumlichen Klangverwirbelungen und hypnotischen Phasenverschiebungen, die den Phase 90 so berühmt machten. Als neues Feature besitzt der EVH 90 den Script-Schalter, der es ermöglicht, zwischen dem Vintage 'Script Logo' und dem moderneren, aggressiveren 'Block Logo' Phasersound zu wählen. We borrowed his amps so that the MXR team could carefully analyze all the sonic qualities that make them sound so darn good. After much analysis and A/B testing, our engineers rebuilt the amps from scratch in pedal circuit form and fit them into a single housing. The High Gain and Crunch Gain sections each have their own controls, while the Blend control allows you to mix them together just like Green Day did in the studio. Layers bases its main experience off a threefold sustain effect that deals in, its namesake, layers. Three onboard sustain layers play concurrently to one another to fashion complex and interesting weaves of notes, as triggered by a variety of methods. By utilizing the dedicated footswitch, Layers can be played manually to sustain notes or remotely by playing dynamics. The pedal’s Trigger knob control can be used to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic trigger sustain function or disable it altogether to offer early insight into this pedal’s options of interactivity.
