MINI KATANA CLEAN BOOST!  Keeley’s oldest design made smaller and with an additional feature.  The Katana started back in 2002 within the Time Machine Boost.  It was a dual class A JFET design that gave players and incredible boost and sounded so good they never turned off.  In fact they often ran two or three on stages like John Mayer!  The Mini Katana boost provides over 35dB of boost.  Enough for the most demanding players and sound reinforcement.The new Mini Katana is now a 4 Mode Booster!  With the dual micro switches you have a total of four sounds possible.  Need drive, just flip the micro Hi-Gain Switch inside and you’ve got overdriven tone!  Flip the Hi-Cut Switch (NEW for the Katana Mini!) on the inside and you have a warmer tone to soften any Strat or Tele.  Flip both switches and you have the ultimate sounding boost, thick, creamy, tube-amp sounding, and plenty of volume on tap!

The Vemuram Jan Ray is a boutique analog overdrive pedal designed to reproduce the punchy, clear tones of 1960s Blackface Fender amps, often described as the “Fender Magic 6” sound. It delivers natural overdrive with great sustain and minimal compression, preserving the guitar’s character while enhancing dynamic response. The pedal features simple, intuitive controls including Volume, Gain, Bass, Treble and a Saturation trimmer, along with true bypass switching for unaltered tone when off. Der legendäre analoge DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 ist zurück, der auf eine über 40 jährige Geschichte zurückblicken kann. Die neue 2013er Version des legendären DOD 250 bietet den klassischen Klang und den wilden Charakter des Klassikers, ohne Abstriche zu machen. Der 250 ist nun noch besser denn je. Mit an Bord sind True-Bypass, eine klare, blaue Status-LED, ordentlich Output und ein zeitgemäßer 9V-Eingang für den Betrieb mit Netzteilen. Mit dem leichteren Aluminiumgehäuse, der gelben Metal-Flake-Lackierung und der mattschwarz lackierten Unterseite ist der 2013er DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 die ideale Grundlage das Vermächtnis von DOD weiterzuführen.

Der DOD Overdrive Preamp 250 (2013) bietet, wie seine Vorgänger, einen Gain- und Level-Regler. Mit Gain wird der Verzerrungsgrad bestimmt. Dieser reicht von leicht angezerrt bis kräftig verzerrt. Mit dem Level-Regler kann dem Klang mehr Substanz hinzugefügt werden, sodass das Pedal auch durchgängig angeschalten bleiben kann - oder weiter aufgedreht einen kräftigen Boost liefert, mit dem sich Soli selbst im dichtesten Soundmix durchsetzen. Die True-Bypass-Schaltung sorgt dafür, dass der Gitarrensound auch bei ausgeschaltetem Pedal klar bleibt. Dies ist ein großer Unterschied vom Original, welches den Klang des Instruments auch im ausgeschalteten Zustand färbte. Dank dem 9V-Eingang ist das Pedal nun auch noch Pedalboard-freundlicher.

The classic returns, first conceived by David Oreste Defrancesco (DOD’s namesake) in the ’70’s as a way to get distortion and boost without any of the downsides that came with some of the fuzzes of the era. This updated version uses the vintage correct LM741 OpAmp, just like back in the ’70’s. Beim DSM & Humboldt Simplifier DLX handelt es sich um eine extrem erweiterte Version des kleinen Simplifiers, der hier bereits Gegenstand eines Tests war. Eine der Besonderheiten an den Geräten der Simplifier-Reihe, die auch gerne Zero Watt Amplifier genannt werden, ist die Zielgruppe, die der chilenische Hersteller ins Auge gefasst hat. Es sind Gitarristen, die mit kleinem Gepäck zum Gig kommen, auf analoge Signalwege setzen und für die deshalb digitale Modeler bzw. Cabinet-Simulationen keine Option sind.

Pedalboard amps seem to be all the rage lately. And I have to admit that I've become increasingly more amicable to getting big tones with less gear. The DSM & Humboldt Simplifier DLX, which delivers a lot of big tones in a single suited-for-pedalboard sized stomp, is the latest iteration of the company's "zero-watt" amp series and features plenty of bells and whistles for the stereo set.
