The Ghost Note Audio Vader 140 is a high-gain preamp pedal designed to capture the tone of the Ampeg VH-140C solid-state amplifier from the late 1980s. It features a novel gain stage design with back-to-back zener clipping diodes, providing a tight, aggressive, and highly saturated sound perfect for death metal and other heavy genres. The pedal includes controls for Gain, Volume, and a three-band active EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble). It also has a "Presence" control to combat the original amp's aggressive high-frequency roll-off, and a "Shift" switch to alter the mid-band's center frequency. The pedal is true bypass via relay switching and uses an internal voltage boost to run at the same voltage as the original amplifier's preamp section.
