SUGIZO is a guitarist and composer who enjoys immense popularity for building a unique sonic world with his own distinctive worldview. His guitar solos have a unique sound that is instantly recognizable as his. Fans of SUGIZO will know that there is an effects pedal that he has been using for many years to create that unique sound. That is the "custom ring modulator." The "custom ring modulator" that SUGIZO uses was made by Hayashi, the representative of Free The Tone, in June 1998. That was about 20 years ago. This custom-made ring modulator has been used by SUGIZO on countless stages, leaving behind many legends. About 10 years ago, SUGIZO directly conveyed a request to Hayashi: "I want the ring modulator to work more cleanly when playing in the high positions, and I want the sound quality to be even better. I also want it to be smaller." In order to meet this request from SUGIZO, the development of a new ring modulator began. However, the main parts used in the custom ring modulator we made at the time had already been discontinued, so we had to start development by searching for a new device.
