Das Pitchfork von EHX ist neben dem Whammy und dem TC Electronic Sub ‚N‘ up das wahrscheinlich beliebteste Pitch-Pedal, das es auf den Pedal-Boards der Welt gibt. Von einem Bekannten, der sich ausgiebig mit dem Löten von Pedalen beschäftigt, habe ich mir sagen lassen, dass der Bau eines wirklich sauber arbeitenden und verlässlich trackenden Pitch-Pedals alles andere als leicht ist. Und das kann man sich gut vorstellen: Viele Pitch-Pedale tracken irgendwie seltsam, klingen entweder im Clean- oder Gain-Bereich jeweils zu matschig und undifferenziert oder können mit bestimmten Frequenzbereichen nicht gut arbeiten. Selbst das von mir hochgeschätzte Red Panda Tensor hat viele Stärken – die Klarheit des Pitch-Effekts ist es nicht.

Die Pitch Fork von Electro Harmonix in unserem aktuellen bonedo-Test beweist einmal mehr, dass auch Pitch-Shifter Effektpedale inzwischen für jedes Budget erschwinglich sind. Dieser Effekt, der in den Achtzigern in einigen berühmten Gitarrenaufnahmen auftauchte, war damals für uns “normale” Musiker kaum erschwinglich. Aber diese Zeiten haben sich glücklicherweise geändert. Pitch-Effekte sind inzwischen im Effektangebot vieler Hersteller zu recht günstigen Kursen zu finden.

The EHX Pitch Fork transposes an instrument’s pitch over a +/- three octave range and features three modes which allow the pitch to be transposed up, down or both, simultaneously. The pitch shift amount can be set to a fixed interval or continuously varied by an expression pedal or control voltage.

Launched in 1976, the CE-1 Chorus Ensemble was not only the world’s first chorus effect pedal, but also the very first BOSS pedal. Three years later, this inventive new sound was squeezed into the blue CE-2 Chorus, and chorus pedals have remained in the compact lineup ever since. Four decades on, the spacious modulated tone of the signature BOSS effect is still loved by musicians everywhere. In 2016, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BOSS innovation, the original analog chorus sounds are now reborn with the Waza Craft CE-2W. The CE-2W’s Standard mode faithfully recreates the classic CE-2 chorus sound, and adds an expansive new sound field with stereo output, which was unavailable in the mono CE-2. CE-1 mode fully reproduces the stereo chorus and vibrato sounds of the legendary CE-1, with the addition of variable chorus depth not available in the original pedal. To commemorate the birth of BOSS effects, the CE-2W is made exclusively in Japan, just as the original CE-1 and CE-2 were.

Der JHS Pedals Bender gibt Gitarristen den Touch, das Feeling und das Ansprechverhalten eines Vintage Germanium Fuzz mit der Genauigkeit und Beständigkeit von sorgfältig ausgewählten, modernen Silizium-Transistoren. Die Regelmöglichkeiten sind mit Volume, Tone und Attack denkbar einfach. Volume kontrolliert das Output Level, Tone bietet einen schönen Sweep von hellen zu eher dunklen Sounds, damit der Bender ohne Probleme mit allen denkbaren Tonabnehmern und Verstärkern harmoniert. Dabei bleibt der Tone-Regler so flexibel, dass sich unzählige klangliche Möglichkeiten umsetzen lassen, von den die meisten Fuzz-Nutzer nur träumen können. Attack regelt den Grad an Verzerrung - je weiter man den Regler aufdreht, desto mehr Fuzz erhält man. Bei hohen Attack-Settings in diesem Modus erhält man je nach Anschlagstärke einen leichten Gated Fuzz Effekt. The JHS Pedals Bender is an attempt to recreate one of the most popular Tonebenders of all time: The 1973 MK3 Silver/Orange 'Onomatopoeia' version. The JHS Pedals Bender is a pedal that gives you the touch, feel, and response of the vintage germanium fuzz but with accuracy and consistency of carefully chosen modern silicon transistors. The controls are Volume, Tone, and Attack. Volume sets the overall output level of the effect; turn it up and things get louder. Tone lets you sweep between bright and dark tones so that the Bender works well with a range of different amplifiers and guitars. Attack is the distortion control, the more you turn it clockwise, the more fuzz you create. On the side you will see a 'Mode' button that lets you access a never-before-heard 'JHS Mode'. Push that button for more gain and a mid frequency boost to send you leads soaring through the mix. With higher Attack settings in this mode, you will feel the fuzz slightly gate depending on your picking dynamics. If you want a fuzz that can go from middle of the road crunch distortion to full out aggression, the Bender is for you. Jimi Hendrix erschien 1966 in London und das damals neue Arbiter Electronics Fuzz Face wurde sein bevorzugtes Fuzz-Pedal - der Rest ist Geschichte. In den ersten Jahren wurde das Fuzz Face mit Germanium-Transistoren gebaut bis das Pedal 1969 komplett auf Silizium-Transistoren umgestellt wurde. Hendrix selbst bevorzugte die Silizium-Version wegen des aggressiveren, bissigeren Sounds und natürlich wegen der besseren Beständigkeit. Der JHS Pedals Smiley bietet eine klanggetreue Nachbildung der Eigenschaften, die die frühen Silizium Fuzz Faces bis heute zu einem Meilenstein der Musikgeschichte machen. Mehrere Vintage Pedale wurden sorgfältig analysiert um die Magie dieser Ära mit dem Smiley perfekt einzufangen. Der Smiley ist klar und definiert und überspannt die Grenze zwischen Fuzz Effektpedal und 'sägendem' Sustain. Die Stompbox erhält das Low-End und den knackigen Biss in der Midrange wie man es von einem Vintage Arbiter-Pedal erwartet. In 1966 Jimi Hendrix arrived in London and adopted the Arbiter Electronics Fuzz Face as his weapon of choice, and the rest is history. The first few years of the Fuzz Face were manufactured using germanium transistors but by 1969, germanium fully gave way to silicon devices and Arbiter never looked back. Hendrix himself preferred the silicon versions over germanium because of their sound, aggressive bite, and their stability in environments where germanium proved inconsistent. The JHS Pedals Smiley is a sonically faithful recreation of what makes these early silicon Fuzz Faces great. Several vintage units were considered and analyzed so that JHS Pedals could be sure to perfectly capture the magic that everyone loves in this era. The Smiley is clear and defined, straddling the line between distortion pedal and a searing sustain, sustaining low end and crisp mid-range bite that you expect from a vintage Arbiter unit. One of the most revered characteristics of a good Fuzz Face is its ability to clean up when the guitar's volume is rolled back, and the Smiley does this effortlessly.
