The Justin Chancellor Cry Baby Wah is a multi-tool of sonic craftsmanship, combining three separate effects into a single pedal: the fluid expressiveness of a custom midrange filter, the bright aggression of a custom wah circuit, and the chainsaw grind of a vintage fuzz. It's the perfect complement to bass player Justin Chancellor's multi-dimensional role in the band Tool. Whether opening up soundscapes with chords and harmonics or syncing up with guitarist Adam Jones to perform arresting single-note unison runs, Justin goes above and beyond the traditional boundaries of his instrument to help compose the band's multi-layered tunes. He is, without a doubt, one of the modern pioneer users of effects on bass, and he keeps a carefully configured pedalboard at his disposal for crafting tones and exploring sounds. This custom Cry Baby Wah combines some of his favorite ways to do just that—filter, wah, and fuzz.

Dimebag Darrell kombinierte die Attitüde eines Cowboys mit High-Gain Riffs und schreienden Leads voller Pinch Harmonics. Eines der wichtigsten Elemente seines Sounds war das Cry Baby Wah, dass er in einer Zeit spielte, als Wah-Pedale lange aus der Mode waren. Durch seine Erfahrung aus jahrelangen Touren half Dimebag Dunlop bei der Entwicklung des flexibelsten Wah-Pedals aller Zeiten: Dem Dime Cry Baby From Hell Wah. 

Dunlop baute das Dime Cry Baby Wah-Pedal auf der Grundlage des 535Q, nahm die Q-Control, den 6-Wege Range Schalter und den schalt- und regelbaren Boost, modifizierte die Sweep Range speziell nach den Bedürfnissen von Dimebag, fügte einen Regler für die max. Sweep Range und einen zweiten Output hinzu und installierte zwei Status LEDs an der Rückseite des Pedals, die den Zustand von Wah und Boost anzeigen. Als letztes Detail wurde die klassische Gummi-Matte auf der Oberseite durch Skateboard Skip Tape getauscht, damit das Pedal auch in Kontakt mit Feuchtigkeit absolut rutschfest bleibt.

Dimebag Darrell combined a cowboy’s swagger with high-gain riffs and squealing pinch harmonic-laden leads. One of the most significant elements of his sound and dynamics was the Cry Baby Wah, and at a time when wah pedals had fallen out of fashion, Dime flew his wah flag high. Armed with his hard-earned expertise and insight from years of touring, he helped Dunlop devise the most versatile wah in their lineup: The Dime Cry Baby from Hell Wah.

Work on this pedal first began some 20 years ago when Dime, a long-time user of the super customizable Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah, wanted even more freedom when setting up his rig on stage. Starting with the 535Q, Dunlop carried over its Q control, 6-way range selector, and adjustable kick-in boost. Next, Dunlop hot-rodded it with a wide sweep range for Dime to dig deep and fly high, a control to adjust the pedal’s toe-down frequency, an extra output for splitting your signal to a separate FX chain, and back-mounted LED indicators to conveniently show whether the wah is on and whether the boost is engaged. Finally, Dunlop replaced the standard rubber tread with skateboard skid tape so that your foot doesn’t slip on any spilled beverages.

Dieses Signature-Wah-Wah-Pedal wurde in Zusammenarbeit mit Zakk Wylde entwickelt. Es verfügt über eine speziell abgestimmte Frequenzkurve mit erweitertem Bassbereich und einem durchsetzungsfähigen Sweep für High-Gain-Rhythmus- und Lead-Gitarren. Ausgestattet mit analoger Schalttechnik enthält es eine rote Fasel-Spule sowie eine einstellbare Drehmomentkupplung zur Regulierung des Wippenwiderstands. Das Gerät ist in einem robusten Rohmetallgehäuse mit individuellem Muster untergebracht. Der Betrieb wird über einen strapazierfähigen Zehen-Fußschalter mit Hardware-Bypass gesteuert.

Designed as a signature wah-wah effect, this pedal was created in collaboration with Zakk Wylde. It features a specially tuned voicing with an extended low end and a thick, cutting frequency sweep tailored for high-gain rhythm and lead guitar. Built with analog circuitry, it includes a Red Fasel inductor and an adjustable torque clutch to modify treadle resistance. The unit is housed in a rugged raw-metal casing with a custom pattern. Operation is managed via a heavy-duty toe footswitch with hardware bypass.
