The Cali76 Compact Bass is a studio-quality FET compressor inspired by the classic 1176, designed specifically for bass players. It retains everything that made the original Cali76 so highly regarded, while adding bass-focused enhancements and packaging it into a compact, pedalboard-friendly format. A single, combined Attack/Release control offers a smooth and practical range of settings, carefully designed to avoid problematic combinations that could introduce unwanted distortion, especially in the low end. Alongside its low-noise design and fast, musical FET response, the Cali76 Compact Bass stands out thanks to two key features that set it apart from other compressors. The first is the Dry Blend control, which allows you to mix your uncompressed signal back in with the compressed one. This parallel compression technique, widely used in professional studios, delivers the signature punch and thickness of 1176-style compression while preserving the natural attack and dynamics of your playing. The result is exceptionally transparent compression that is both powerful and articulate. The second standout feature comes straight from studio engineering practice. A variable-frequency high-pass filter in the sidechain lets you control how much compression is applied to the lowest frequencies. With the HPF engaged, compression becomes frequency-dependent: the low strings remain full, weighty, and dynamic, while the higher strings stay tightly controlled.
