Utilizing JFET technology cascaded gain stages we set out to mimic the signal path and response of a high gain tube amp. Combining the best sounds of American and British style high gain amps along with a versatile 3 band passive EQ and presence control we created a distortion effect that can cover a wide range of gain from low overdrive – crunchy sounds to fully saturated gain with huge amounts of sustain. Even at high gain settings Black Magic mk2 preserves full clarity and definition and can clean up with your guitar’s volume knob. With an assignable boost footswitch you can select to boost gain, volume or both in order to stand out for your solo without the need to change settings on the fly.

Venus ist ein echter Röhren-Overdrive, inspiriert von einem der größten Meisterwerke des Pedal-Museums.  

Mit ultimativer Vielseitigkeit und Klangformung im Fokus haben wir es uns zur Aufgabe gemacht, eine klassische Röhren-Klangskulptur mit modernen Verfeinerungen nachzubilden – von einem sanften, leichten Röhren-Overdrive bis hin zu einem aggressiven High-Gain-Distortion im Fuzz-Bereich.  

Kompakte Größe, maximale Leistung  
Größe ist wichtig! Ohne Klangqualität zu opfern, haben wir unsere Schaltung in das kleinstmögliche Gehäuse gepackt: 12,6 x 6,6 x 5,7 cm (L x B x H). Anstelle eines internen Step-Down-Transformators haben wir Venus so konzipiert, dass es mit einem standardmäßigen 9V-DC-Netzteil betrieben wird – für minimale Hintergrundgeräusche und Brummen. Das Pedal kann mit dem mitgelieferten Netzteil oder jedem isolierten 9V-DC-Netzteil mit 500mA (Mitte negativ) betrieben werden. Ein speziell entwickelter interner Spannungswandler sorgt dann für die optimalen Betriebsbedingungen mit symmetrischen +/-15V DC.  

Röhrenwahl & Anpassung  
Das klassische Meisterwerk, das Venus inspiriert hat, wurde ursprünglich mit einer ECC83 (12AX7) Doppeltriode geliefert. Für einen sanfteren, saubereren Klang ersetzten viele Nutzer diese Röhre jedoch durch Varianten mit weniger Gain und höherem Headroom, wie die ECC81 (12AT7) oder ECC82 (12AU7). Deshalb haben wir uns für eine ECC832 als Standardröhre entschieden – eine ungewöhnliche Kombination, die eine Hälfte einer ECC83 und eine Hälfte einer ECC82 enthält. Dadurch bleibt der Charakter des Originals erhalten, jedoch mit mehr Klarheit, besserer Saitentrennung und einer breiteren Klangbühne.  

Alle gängigen Doppeltrioden wie ECC83/12AX7, 5751, ECC81/12AT7, 12AY7 oder ECC82/12AU7 können weiterhin eingesetzt werden, um unterschiedliche Klangnuancen zu erzielen. Mit dem Bias-Regler lässt sich der Röhren-Bias steuern, also der Stromfluss durch die Kathoden. Damit kann man den Sweet Spot für verschiedene Röhrentypen finden und gleichzeitig die Verzerrungstextur einstellen – von rau, aggressiv und "gated" (gegen den Uhrzeigersinn) bis hin zu weich und cremig (im Uhrzeigersinn). In der maximalen Rechtsdrehung bietet der Bias-Regler den saubersten Klang für die meisten Röhrentypen.  

Volle Klangkontrolle  
Ein 3-Band-Equalizer gibt dir absolute Kontrolle über das Frequenzspektrum. Mit dem Mittenregler kannst du gezielt zwischen den verschiedenen Klangcharakteristiken der ursprünglichen Einheit wechseln – besonders nützlich für Amps mit leicht abgesenkten Mitten.  

Zusätzlich haben wir einen Push-Schalter integriert, um die Tief- und Tiefmittenanhebung in den Röhren-Gain-Stufen zu steuern. So kannst du zwischen einem satten ("fat") oder straffen ("tight") Klang wählen.  

Ein schaltbarer Low-Output-Impedanz Line Driver (Buffer/Volume Booster) sorgt dafür, dass dein Signal verlustfrei an das nächste Pedal oder den Amp weitergeleitet wird, wobei alle Frequenzen erhalten bleiben. Venus arbeitet immer im True Bypass, unabhängig von der Einstellung des Push-Schalters. Der Line Driver wird nur dann aktiviert, wenn der Effekt eingeschaltet ist.

Venus is a real tube overdrive inspired by one of the greatest masterpieces of the pedal museum.

With ultimate versatility and tone shaping in mind, we set out to recreate a classic tube tone sculpture with modern refinements, generating anything from a smooth, light tube overdrive, to a high-gain, nasty distortion within the realm of fuzz. 

First of all, size matters! Without sacrificing tone, we squeezed our circuit into the smallest possible enclosure, measuring 12.6 x 6.6 x 5.7 cm (L x W x H).  Instead of an internal step-down power transformer, we designed Venus to operate from a standard 9V DC power supply to minimize background noise and hum. The user can operate the pedal from the included power supply or any isolated 9V DC, center-negative power supply output with 500mA current capability. Then a properly designed internal voltage booster/inverter circuit provides the correct voltage conditions (symmetrical +/- 15V DC).

While the classic masterpiece that inspired Venus originally shipped with an ECC83 (12AX7) dual triode tube, users looking for a smoother, cleaner sound replaced the tube with a lower gain/higher headroom variant like ECC81 (12AT7) or ECC82 (12AU7). With that in mind, we selected an ECC832 tube as stock for Venus. This kind of oddball tube features half of an ECC83 and half of an ECC82. The tone is as close as possible to the original “tube sculpture” but with more clarity, string separation and a wider soundstage.

You can still substitute with all the "usual suspects" of dual triode tube types like ECC83/12AX7, 5751, ECC81/12AT7, 12AY7, ECC82/12AU7 for a different sonic flavor. Use the bias knob to set the tube bias/control the current passing through the tube cathodes. By adjusting this knob, you can find the sweet spot for different tube types used and/or set the texture of the overdrive / distortion: from gnarly, nasty and gated (counter-clockwise) to smooth and creamy (clockwise). The full clockwise setting of the bias knob has the cleanest sound for most tube types used.

A full 3-band EQ gives you total control over frequency response. With the mid control, you can sweep through the sounds of all the variants of the unit that inspired Venus and also comes in especially handy if you are using slightly mid-scooped clean amps. To sculpt the tone further and match the pedal to different guitars and/or pickups, we have also added a push switch to set the amount of low and low-mid frequencies boost that hits the tube gain stages between the stock fat or tight sound (when pushed in). A switchable low-output-impedance line driver (buffer/volume booster) ensures that your signal gets properly pushed through to the next pedal or your amp, and all your audio frequencies are retained. The bypass state of Venus is always true bypass regardless of this push button switch setting. The selectable line driver is only placed at the output of the effect when engaged.

In search for the ultimate envelope filter we set out to mod a classic design of the past to match the needs of the modern player. To make the pedal a little more exciting and â€œcrazyâ€ we added analog gated fuzz with switchable -1,+1,+2 octaves. You can use both effects simultaneously or independently via the 2 easily accessible footswitches. A dry out level control makes the effect perfectly suitable for guitar, bass or keyboards.

Der Crazy Tube Circuits Motherload ist ein rein analoges Verzerr- und Fuzz-Pedal, das zwei klassische Gain-Schaltungen – einen Big Muff-ähnlichen Fuzz und eine RAT-ähnliche Distortion – in einem kompakten Gehäuse vereint. Mit einem Toggle-Schalter wählt man zwischen dem Muff- (Fuzz-) und dem Rat- (Distortion-)Circuit, wobei jede Sektion eigene EQ-Regler besitzt. Ein Link EQ-Schalter aktiviert alle Tonregler zusammen für neue Klangkombinationen. Die Regler umfassen Volume, Gain, Tone (Muff), Voice (Muff-Mittencharakter) und Filter (Hochschnitt für Rat) und ermöglichen eine breite Klangpalette von Fuzz-Sättigung bis zu kräftiger Verzerrung. Das Pedal wird mit einem 9 V DC-Netzteil betrieben und hat True-Bypass-Schaltung.

The Crazy Tube Circuits Motherload is an all-analog distortion and fuzz pedal that combines two classic gain circuits—a Big Muff-style fuzz and a RAT-style distortion—into one compact box. It features a toggle switch to select between the Muff (fuzz) and Rat (distortion) circuits, each with its own EQ controls, and a Link EQ button that activates all tone controls together for unique combined tonal shaping. Controls include Volume, Gain, Tone (Muff), Voice (mid character for Muff), and Filter (high-cut for Rat), giving a wide sonic palette from saturated fuzz to roaring distortion. The pedal runs on standard 9 V DC with true bypass.
