This foundation overdrive is the original version of the Ampeg-inspired circuit, specifically designed to capture the high-headroom, touch-sensitive response of late 1960s SVT and VT-40 amplifiers. Unlike the later V2 model, the V1 lacks the external "Stones/Stoner" mode switch, instead featuring a wider-sweep gain control that covers a range from subtle, clean grit to high-saturation distortion. It utilizes a two-band Baxandall EQ (Bass and Treble) that allows for active frequency shaping, making it equally effective for both electric guitar and bass. The internal architecture takes cues from hi-fi audio design, omitting standard guitar pedal cathode capacitors to maintain a massive, "throaty" low-mid roar. It is highly responsive to picking dynamics and can be run at 18V for increased headroom and a more percussive, amp-like feel.
