The improved RockBoard® MODs V2 are simple all-in-one patchbays for RockBoard pedalboards with a new, refreshed design, and compact housing. Das EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath V3 klingt ein wenig so, wie es aussieht: Wie ein Sound-Zauberer, der eine riesige Höhle betritt und sich in die Ambient-Reverb-Schlacht wirft. Das Pedal bietet ein extrem breites Spektrum an unterschiedlichen, riesigen, ausladenden und magischen Ambient-Reverbs und deckt von wilden, verschlungenen Hall-Effekten über atmosphärische, kurze, digitale Delays bis zu Staccato-artigen, rhythmischen Wiederholungen mit bizarren Sounds alle denkbaren Effekte ab. Die Regelmöglichkeiten für Length (Länge des Nachhalls), Dampen (Tone), Reflect (Depth, Regeneration) und Mix (Wet/Dry-Mix) sind bekannte Parameter bei Reverb-Pedalen und arbeiten sehr intuitiv. Der Diffuse-Regler kontrolliert die Streuung des Nachhalls und ermöglicht je nach Setting aggressivere Sounds, bei denen das Einsetzen der einzelnen Wiederholungen deutlicher hörbar oder weicher und verwaschener wird. Der Drag-Regler trennt die digitalen Delay-Gruppen voneinander. So rücken den Repeats je nach Setting näher aneinander (Hall-ähnlicher Effekt) oder werden auseinander gezogen, sodass statt eines Halls verstreute Ping-Pong-Effekte zu hören sind.

The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath V3 sounds a lot like it looks: a sound wizard bursting forth from ethereal cave and ready for the ambient reverb battle. The pedal offers an extremely wide range of different, vast, expansive, and magical ambient reverbs and covers all possible effects from wild and cavernous reverb effects to atmospheric reverberations of short digital delays to scattered, rhythmic delays with bizarre characteristics. The controls for Length (decay length of the reverb), Dampen (tone), Reflect (depth, regeneration) and Mix (wet/dry mix) are well-known parameters for reverb pedals and work very intuitively. The Diffuse knob adjusts the spread of the reverb, turned counterclockwise, the reverb is sharper with more attack, resulting in a stuttering sputter of individual early reflections. Clockwise casts a washy, more ambient-sounding effect. Drag separates the individual digital delay lines, clockwise positions will gather the delay lines close together for a more reverb-like effect. Turn the Drag counterclockwise, and the delay lines will begin to pull apart for a scattered ping-pong delay effect.

Die Walrus Audio Julia ist ein komplett analoges Chorus/Vibrato-Pedal, das mit einigen Besonderheiten aufwarten kann. Obwohl es sich bei den beiden um alteingesessene Standard-Effektsounds handelt, versteht es der amerikanische Boutique-Hersteller, mit einigen Extras jenseits der Norm Interesse zu wecken.
So auch bei der Julia, bei der beispielsweise fließend mit einem Blend-Regler zwischen Chorus und Vibrato gewechselt werden kann. Dazu lässt ein Schalter die Wahl, den LFO zu Sinus- oder Dreieck-Wellenformen zu überreden. Was diese Funktionen klanglich bewirken, schauen wir uns im Folgenden an.

The MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay features a completely analog audio path for the ultimate in rich, warm delay-made possible only by old-school bucket brigade technology. Der AUX Ausgang vereint Tuner und Expression Funktion in einer Buchse, die per internem Schalter festgelegt werden kann. Über interne Trim-Potis kann das Minimum-Volumen des Pedals eingestellt werden und wenn du willst, kannst du auch die Funktionsrichtung umkehren – ein weiterer interner Schalter macht’s möglich.

The AUX output combines tuner and expression functionality into one jack that can be toggled with a switch inside the pedal. When using the DVP4 as an expression pedal, you can use an internal pot to set the minimum level of the parameter you’re controlling with the rocker. If you want to reverse the function of the heel-down and toe-down positions, the DVP4 has another internal switch that allows you to do so.

Building off of the lush, tonal landscapes that the Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato created, Julianna is an all analog, digital LFO, stereo chorus/vibrato with new expanded features. Julianna is able to produce mild smooth chorus, to seasick vibrato, to everywhere in between. Familiar controls like Lag, Dry-Chorus-Vibrato Blend, and selectable LFO wave shapes are all still here, but Julianna employs some new tricks: The Secondary LFO speed, modulation drift, tap/expression control and momentary features will have you commanding all new kinds of sounds not found in traditional chorus pedals.

Der Lastlight steht in der Tradition klassischer Overdrive-Schaltungen, setzt aber auf eine Transistor-basierte Boost- und Overdrive-Architektur. Zwar kann er auch hochverzerrte, fuzz-ähnliche Sounds erzeugen, doch sein wahres Potenzial entfaltet er im Low- bis Mid-Gain-Bereich.

Hier wurde das ursprüngliche Design clever weiterentwickelt: Die verbesserte Gain-Regelung ermöglicht nun fließendere Übergänge zwischen sanfter und starker Verzerrung, während das kompakte 125B-Gehäuse mit seitlichen Anschlüssen perfekt für jedes Pedalboard geeignet ist.

In the lineage of a classic overdriver circuit, the Lastlight is a transistor based boost and overdrive. While it is capable of producing higher gain fuzz-like tones, it really shines in the low to medium gain range.

The Lastlight reimagines the original design by dramatically improving the sweep of the gain knob, allowing for a more smooth transition between low and high gain settings and updating the enclosure to a pedalboard friendly 125b enclosure with top mounted jacks.
