Die New Yorker Company Aguilar ist seit 1995 nicht mehr aus der Szene wegzudenken. Damals war in der New Yorker Bassistenszene plötzlich ein Gerät einer noch unbekannten Marke in aller Munde: der Aguilar DB 680, ein Highend-Röhren-Preamp, welcher qualitativ höchsten Ansprüchen gerecht wurde und auf den Erfahrungen des professionellen Session-Bassisten Dave Boonshoft und des Amp-Spezialisten Alex Aguilar basierte. Beflügelt vom Erfolg des DB 680 und den positiven Rückmeldungen der Szene entstand zur damaligen Zeit die Firma Aguilar Amplification, die bis heute für edlen amerikanischen Basssound steht. Seit 1995 hat sich freilich sehr viel getan – vor allem wurde das Portfolio deutlich erweitert. Heutzutage baut Aguilar Amps, Boxen, Pickups, Elektroniken und Effektpedale. Und ein neuer Spross eben dieser Pedale liegt mir heute zum Test vor: der Grape Phaser!

The 4-stage analog Grape Phaser is a fairly simple pedal with just two dials: rate and color. It’s a solid, high-quality stompbox with a sturdy bypass switch and nice rubber control knobs. The pedal’s rate knob can take the speed of the modulation from a long and luxurious slow sweep all the way up to super-fast alien helicopter sounds. The color control feeds a portion of the signal back through the phase-shifting circuit. The Grape runs on 9V DC from your favorite universal power supply, but accepts a battery, too. The battery is accessed through a clever metal drawer that’s conveniently released with one Phillips screw. The pedal also features what Aguilar calls “gig-saver” bypass, which means if/when power to the pedal is lost, the signal is still passed through the bypassed pedal. I think that feature could really live up to its name! And, of course, the pedal is grape colored.

A standard Broughton high pass filter with the bypass switch removed. This design allows a more compact layout, fitting on a single pedal board rail, or even mountable underneath a pedal board.

The high pass filter is a 12 dB per octave low frequency filter. The knob controls the cutoff frequency and ranges continuously from 25 Hz to 190 Hz. It has the same frequency points as the switched version, but it does not have the frequencies printed around the knob.

The stock input impedance is 1MΩ. If you have an acoustic pickup that requires a specialized input impedance, write it in the notes during check-out, and we will accomodate the request at no extra cost. The output impedance is 100Ω. This device will work with active or passive instruments, as well as with other devices such as pedals, preamps, or effects loops.

Diese winzige Funk-Maschine ist das Geheimwaffe zahlloser Profis und wurde von solchen Größen wie Guthrie Govan, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Salas, David Torn, Bill Laswell, TM Stevens, Everlast und Powerman 5000 eingesetzt, um nur einige zu nennen. Als Guyatone 2013 die Produktion des WR-3™ einstellte, stiegen Nachfrage und Vintage-Preise in schwindelerregende Höhen. Totally Wycked Audio hat das geliebte “Duck Box” nun für die Massen neu aufgelegt. Der TWA WR-03 Wah Rocker® basiert auf der Originalschaltung des WR-3™ und liefert das quietschende, geschmeidige Funk-Filtering des Originals, ergänzt um mehrere Verbesserungen für erhöhte Funktionalität und Performance. Neben den klassischen Threshold- und Decay-Reglern bietet der WR-03 einen Range-Regler zur Feinabstimmung des Filterbereichs, einen Gain-Regler für Ausgabeverstärkung, einen stufenlos einstellbaren Blend-Regler für einen druckvolleren Bassbereich und mehr Klangvielfalt sowie einen Guitar/Bass-Schalter für den Sound des Guyatone BR-2 Bottom Wah Rocker®. Zudem verwendet das Pedal TWAs firmeneigenes S3™ “Shortest Send Switching” – eine Form des True Bypass mit elektronischen Relais und mechanischem Schalter, für den transparentesten Bypass-Klang.

Even if you’ve never heard of the Guyatone Wah Rocker®, you’ve definitely heard it. A secret weapon of countless pros, this diminutive funk machine has been used by such luminaries as Guthrie Govan, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Salas, David Torn, Bill Laswell, TM Stevens, Everlast, and Powerman 5000, just to name a few. When Guyatone ceased production of the WR-3™ in 2013, demand for the Wah Rocker® went through the roof, and so did the prices on the vintage market. In an effort to bring the Funk to the masses, Totally Wycked Audio has resurrected the beloved “Duck Box” in an all-new device. Introducing the TWA WR-03 Wah Rocker®! Based on the original WR-3™ circuit, it nails the squawky, slippery, super-funked-up filtering of the Guyatone version while adding several updates that greatly improve functionality and performance compared to the original. In addition to the standard Threshold and Decay controls, the WR-03 features a Range control for fine-tuning the filter sweep band, a Gain control for output boost, a continuously variable Blend control for beefier bottom-end and tonal variety, and a Guitar/Bass switch to access the Guyatone BR-2 Bottom Wah Rocker® sound. The pedal also employs TWA’s proprietary S3™ “Shortest Send Switching,” a form of True Bypass using electronic relays and a mechanical switch to ensure the most transparent bypass tone available.

Wah Rocker WR-3

Der CIOKS 8 Expander ist unser größter Schaltnetzteil-Extender und verfügt über 8 isolierte Ausgänge, die jeweils 9 V DC mit 660 mA liefern. Alle acht Ausgänge bieten vier wählbare Spannungen (9V, 12V, 15V und 18V).

CIOKS 8 is our largest switch-mode power supply extender and it features 8 isolated outlets which each deliver 9V DC with 660mA. All eight outlets offer four selectable voltages (9V, 12V, 15V and 18V).

8 Expander

CIOKS 4 Expander is the perfect companion to CIOKS DC7 in case you would like four additional outlets with four selectable voltages on each tap (9, 12, 15 and 18V DC) which can each deliver 660mA at 9V DC. Simply connect CIOKS 4 Expander to your CIOKS DC7 via the courtesy 24V outlet and you are good to go.

But that is definitely not all – what makes CIOKS 4 Expander truly unique is the fact that you can power it with anything from 9V to 24V DC or 9V to 12V AC via the non-polarized DC socket input. Furthermore CIOKS 4 can even be powered by connecting it to a USB powerbank via its 5V USB C input or by using a tablet or laptop power supply with a USB C plug. This flexibility means that you can use CIOKS 4 Expander as a stand-alone unit and power it with almost any adapter including the 1-SPOT or GigRig Generator. You can also use the 24V output on a Strymon Zuma unit to power the CIOKS 4 Expander. It can also convert an unused AC outlet on your existing power supply into 4 isolated DC outlets.

CIOKS CRUX is the ultimate add-on to CIOKS DC7 if you are using a Neural DSP Quad Cortex, a Line 6 HX-series pedal or another power-hungry 9V or 12V multi-effects pedal. Simply connect the CRUX to the 24V outlet on DC7, set the correct voltage on CRUX, connect the appropriate CIOKS Flex cable from CRUX to your multi-effect pedal and you are good to go. 

Using CRUX frees up the outlets on DC7 that would otherwise be needed to run these devices (for instance four for a Neural DSP Quad Cortex and two outlets for a Line HX Stomp), allowing you to run more pedals along with your multi-effects device. CRUX therefore provides a simpler, more reliable setup and gives you more options for connecting additional pedals.
