Der Evolution Overdrive ist eine einzigartige und stark optimierte Verschmelzung von zwei der berühmtesten Pedale, die jemals entwickelt wurden. Die Wurzeln des Evolution liegen im Big Muff der 70er Jahre, der als Basis für das Overdrive-Pedal eines weltbekannten britischen Herstellers in den frühen Neunzigern verwendet wurde. Ich bin zurück ans Zeichenbrett gegangen und habe die Muff-Schaltung überarbeitet, um einige Änderungen einzubauen, ohne den Overdrive-Charakter der Version aus den frühen Neunzigern zu verlieren.

Von leichtem Drive bis hin zu voller britischer Röhrenverstärker-Verzerrung schneidet der Evolution mit artikulierten Mitten und genau der richtigen Menge an Bässen durch, um in einem Bandmix wirklich hervorzustechen. Eine Mischung aus Silizium- und Germanium-Komponenten, großartiger Dynamik und Anschlagsdynamik sorgen dafür, dass der Evolution so klingt und sich anfühlt, als ob man direkt an einen aufgedrehten Röhrenverstärker angeschlossen wäre.

Die standardmäßigen Drive-, Tone- und Volume-Regler werden durch den Contour-Regler ergänzt, mit dem man den Mittenbereich des Pedals von ausgeprägt bis hin zu einer eher flachen Reaktion einstellen kann.

The Evolution Overdrive is a highly unique and massively tweaked amalgamation of two of the most famous pedals ever created. The roots of the evolution lie in the 70’s big muff which was used as the basis of the overdrive pedal made by a world renowned UK builder in the early nineties. I’ve gone back to the drawing board and re-worked the muff circuit to incorporate some changes while still keeping the overdriven character of the early nineties version.

Light drive to full on British style tube amp distortion, the Evolution cuts through with articulate mids and just the right amount of low end to really stand out in a band mix. A blend of silicon and germanium components, great dynamics and touch responsiveness make the evolution sound and feel like you’re  plugged straight into a cranked tube amplifier.

The standard drive, tone and volume controls are complimented by the contour control allowing you to set the mid range of the pedal from pronounced to a more flat response.

Evolution

The Big Muff Pi “Ram’s Head” fuzz circuit is one of the most well-known, coveted and revered sounds in the history of guitar effects, heard on countless classic albums and in live shows over the past 4+ decades. While the original pedals are expensive and difficult to obtain, there are a number of companies who make tasty recreations of this type of sound, emulating that specific fuzz tone to a T. The M-1 Ram’s Head Fuzz from Buffalo FX is exactly one of these creations, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to take another look at another killer fuzz pedal.

M1 Fuzz

Eingefleischten David Gilmour Fans dürfte das “Civil War” Big Muff Fuzz von Electro Harmonix sicherlich ein Begriff sein, kam dieses Pedal doch auf dem Live Album „Pulse“ der Band Pink Floyd ausgiebig zum Einsatz. Das inzwischen sehr begehrte Pedal wurde zu Beginn der 90er Jahre in Russland hergestellt. Der spezielle Name rührt dabei von der grau-blauen Farbgebung her, die an die beiden Parteien des amerikanischen Bürgerkriegs erinnert. Buffalo FX aus Frankreich hat nun mit Patriot MKII ein weiteres Fuzz-Pedal im Angebot, das sich dieser Schaltung annimmt und diese mit einem Bass-Cut und einer Mid-Boost-Option verfeinert.    

French pedal maker Buffalo FX has introduced the Patriot Mk II, an update to its original Patriot muff circuit.
The Patriot is based on the Civil War Muff circuit, with Buffalo promising David Gilmour-like tones circa Pink Floyd’s 1994 The Division Bell tour. The new iteration offers the full range of tones of the original Patriot, with additional low-end cut and midrange boost.

Patriot MkII

Klangliche Nachbildung des originalen 18v Colorsound Powerboost. Verwendet von Gilmour, T-Rex und auf vielen Aufnahmen aus den 70er Jahren zu finden.

Dieser Nachbau ist einzigartig, da er mit einem Spannungsverdoppler ausgestattet ist, um den zusätzlichen Headroom des frühesten und originalen 18-Volt-Powerboosts zu erhalten, aber immer noch mit einer Standard-9-Volt-Versorgung läuft.

Auch wenn du nicht auf der Suche nach Sounds aus vergangenen Tagen bist, ist es ein großartiges Pedal, um einen Röhrenverstärker zu pushen. Kann von cleanem Boost bis hin zu vollem Fuzz mit natürlichen Drive-Sounds dazwischen gehen. Tolle Dynamik, gute Gitarrenabschwächung. Funktioniert gut mit jedem Setup.

This is unique to all other clones as it is fitted with a voltage doubler to give you the extra headroom of the earliest and original 18v Powerboost but still runs from a standard 9v supply

Even if your not chasing tones from days gone, with plenty of volume on tap it's a great pedal for pushing a tube amp. Can go from clean boost to full on fuzz with natural drive tones between. Great dynamics, good guitar volume roll off. Work's well with any setup.

Power Booster

Tonally, the Carrera sits somewhere between the TD-X and Evolution (or a Boss BD-2 and Rat). Whereas the TD-X can sound a bit thin and bright on some mids scooped high headroom amps, the Carrera has that extra mids hump that maintains the character and warmth of the pedal.
