Es basiert auf der Krusher-Plattform der Marke und verfügt über eine einzigartige Zwei-Band-EQ-Sektion vor der Verzerrung, die für eine umfassende Klangformung vor der Gain-Stufe ausgelegt ist. Der „Kick“-Regler fungiert als aktive Bass-Kontur um 100 Hz, während der „Punch“-Regler die Mitten vor dem Drive bei etwa 1 kHz für „Chainsaw“-Texturen steuert. Diese Version führt eine relaisbasierte lautlose Umschaltung ein und ist so konzipiert, dass sie einen anschlagsdynamischen Gain liefert, der die natürliche Tonalität von Gitarre und Verstärker beibehält. In Oregon handgefertigt, fungiert es effektiv als eigenständiger Drive oder als dedizierter Vorverstärker.

The Shroot II is a versatile "amp-in-a-box" style overdrive and distortion pedal that serves as an evolution of the original Shroot circuit. Built on the brand's Krusher platform, it features a unique pre-drive two-band EQ section designed for significant tone shaping before the gain stage. The "Kick" control acts as an active low-end contour centered around 100Hz, while the "Punch" control manages pre-drive midrange at approximately 1kHz for "chainsaw" textures. Designed as a compact, mini-format iteration of a legendary overdrive architecture, this unit meticulously recreates the signature features of the Klon Centaur circuit. With its simple three-knob interface, you can dial in the effect to your taste in short order. First, use the VIBE switch to select either Chorus Mode—dry signal mixed with pitch-shifted signal—or Vibrato Mode—only pitch-shifted signal. Then, use the LEVEL control to set the effect volume, the SPEED control to set the sweep rate, and the DEPTH control to set overall intensity.

Den unglaublichen Sound, den EVH auf dieser Platte kreierte, gehört zu den absoluten Meilensteinen des Rock und ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieses Sounds war von vornherein der MXR Phase 90. Der Phase 90 trug maßgeblich zu den zeitlosen Gitarrensounds von “Eruption,“ “Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,“ “On Fire,“ und “Atomic Punk“, sowie vieler anderer klassischer Van Halen Stücke bei. Entstanden aus einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Eddie Van Halen und Jim Dunlop ist der EVH 90 eine komplett neu designte Version des legendären Phase 90. Der EVH 90 zeigt genau die gleichen räumlichen Klangverwirbelungen und hypnotischen Phasenverschiebungen, die den Phase 90 so berühmt machten. Als neues Feature besitzt der EVH 90 den Script-Schalter, der es ermöglicht, zwischen dem Vintage 'Script Logo' und dem moderneren, aggressiveren 'Block Logo' Phasersound zu wählen.
