Winford Drive

Der optische Fermata-Kompressor ist ein Produkt, das bei XTS eine sehr lange Entwicklungszeit hinter sich hat.  Von der Erfindung der idealen Kompressoreigenschaften über die Entwicklung der entsprechenden Schaltungen bis hin zur Beschaffung von Teilen für die Produktion haben die Jungs von XTS hart daran gearbeitet, einen Kompressor zu entwickeln, der eine Menge Kontrolle bietet, ohne schwer einzustellen zu sein - und das Ergebnis ist erstaunlich!

Der Fermata hält sich an viele klassische optische Kompressor-Eigenschaften. Das optische Element des Fermata sorgt für einen weichen, knackigen Sound, der auch bei hohen SUSTAIN-Einstellungen natürlich klingt.  Im Gegensatz zu einigen VCA-basierten Designs kann der Fermata den Dynamikbereich einschränken, ohne den dynamischen Inhalt Ihres Signals zu zerstören. Selbst bei sehr aggressiven und pumpenden Einstellungen atmet dieser Kompressor wie die großartigen, auf optischer Technik basierenden Studiodesigns der Vergangenheit.

Der Fermata verfügt zwar nicht über einen Mix-Regler, aber über vier Möglichkeiten, die Kompressionscharakteristik so zu steuern, dass sie den gewünschten Grad an Subtilität erreicht.  So viel der Fermata an Kompression bietet, so sehr hebt er sich von anderen Geräten auf dem Markt durch die Möglichkeiten ab, ihn NICHT zu komprimieren.

The Fermata optical compressor is a product that has spent a very long time in development at XTS.  From dreaming up ideal compressor features, designing the circuits to implement them, sourcing parts for production and going back to square one on more than one occasion, the guys at XTS have worked very hard to provide a compressor that offers a ton of control without being difficult to dial in -- and the results are amazing! 

The Fermata holds true to many classic optical compressor characteristics. The optical element of the Fermata gives a soft-knee squish that sounds natural even under high SUSTAIN settings.  Unlike some VCA based designs, the Fermata can limit dynamic range without necessarily destroying the dynamic content of your signal. Even with very aggressive and pumping settings, this compressor breathes like the great studio optical-based designs of the past.  

While the Fermata does not have a mix control per se, it does have a four ways of controlling the compression characteristic to whatever level of subtly needed.  For as much as the Fermata offers in terms of compression, it may be the ways in which it can be made to NOT compress that set it apart from other devices in the market.

The Preamp holds three of our most popular circuits, the Atomic Overdrive, the Precision Multi-Drive, and the Pegasus Boost... all in one box! We have designed it to function like a two channel preamp plus a boost; add your favorite delay and you'll have a small but formidable guitar rig! Change tones with one press of the Channel Select button. No more stomp-off-then-stomp-on. Quickly change from one great tone to another! You can use the Pegasus independently of the two drives, and with the Pre-Post switch you can put the boost before or after your selected drive, giving you the option to add saturation to your dirty sound or a level boost to get over the band for soloing. Der XTS Shapecharger ist eine diskrete Transistorschaltung, die eine Vielzahl von Boost-Typen ermöglicht. Er besteht aus zwei unabhängigen FET-Boost-Sektionen; eine für vollmundige, transparente Verstärkung und die andere für fokussierte Mittenkontrolle. Aufgrund der röhrenähnlichen Eigenschaften dieser Boost-Schaltungen hat der Shapecharger eine Röhrenqualität, die den Gitarrensound süßer macht und gleichzeitig alle Nuancen des jeweiligen Instruments originalgetreu wiedergibt. Der primäre Gain-Schaltkreis ist ein Full-Range-Boost, der unserem Pegasus Boost sehr ähnlich ist. Es handelt sich um eine einfache Schaltung, die eine saubere Verstärkung bietet, aber auch bei höheren Gain-Einstellungen schön aufbrechen kann, wenn sie hart gefahren wird. Während Full-Range-Gain unter vielen Umständen großartig ist, ist es manchmal notwendig, einige Bassfrequenzen aus dem verstärkten Signal zu entfernen, um sicherzustellen, dass dein Sound straff und kontrolliert bleibt, insbesondere wenn du Pedale und Verstärker ansteuerst, die bereits aufbrechen. Diese Doppelfunktion macht den Shapecharger zu zwei Pedalen in einem und ist ideal für Spieler mit kompakten Rigs und jeden, der nach einer Vielzahl von Gain-Stufen-Optionen für sein Gitarren-Rig sucht.

The XTS Shapecharger is a discrete transistor circuit capable of a wide variety of boost types. It consists of two independent FET boost sections; one for full-bodied, transparent gain and the other for focused, mid-range control. Because of the valve-like characteristics of these boost circuits, the Shapecharger has a vacuum tube quality that makes your guitar sound sweeter while still being faithful to reproduce all the nuances of your particular instrument. The primary gain circuit is a full-range boost very similar to our Pegasus Boost.
It is a simple circuit that provides clean gain, but can also breakup beautifully under higher gain settings when driven hard. While full-range gain is great in many circumstances, it is sometimes necessary, particularly when driving pedals and amps already breaking up, to remove some bass frequencies from your boosted signal, making sure your sound stays tight and controlled. The Shapecharger's RANGE control sculpts your signals low end with a shelving, high-pass circuit. Small amounts of RANGE tightens up a tubby amp, and turning the GAIN and RANGE up gives great, treble-boosted tones.
The secondary gain circuit is a mid-boost with a sweepable mid frequency. The mid-boost comes before the primary gain circuit and is capable of overdriving it and any amp or pedal that comes after. The mid-boost and its parametric control are a discrete transistor design, simple, but very powerful in application. With mid-frequency control, you can boost low-mid frequencies for throaty fullness or high-mid frequencies to add classic guitar cut. At extreme settings, cocked-wah tones are available. The Shapecharger also introduces our S.M.R.T. Switch. When you put your Shapecharger into S.M.R.T. Switch mode, you can turn the primary gain circuit on and off by itself, and then add the mid-boost circuit to it for solos or additional gain tones. This dual function mode makes the Shapecharger two pedals in one and is great for players with compact rigs and anyone looking for a variety of gain-stage options for their guitar rig.
