The TC Electronic Sentry is a noisegate pedal that addresses the problems that single-coil players and hard and heavy guitarists in particular can tell you a thing or two about. Of course, we're talking about unwanted noise, which often occurs in the form of interference or stronger noise and makes life difficult for us.

Was ist daran so besonders?

Die meisten E-Gitarren sind mit passiven Tonabnehmern ausgestattet und haben eine entsprechend hohe Ausgangsimpedanz. Bei Verwendung eines Gitarrenkabels von 6m oder länger geht im Höhenbereich je länger je mehr vom Gitarren-Sound verloren. Ein Puffer kompensiert diese Signalbeeinträchtigung und somit den Sound-Verlust für lange Kabel – selbst, wenn die Stimmfunktion aus ist.

Der ULTRA-BUFFER verbessert die Klangqualität im Bypass-Betrieb und erhält bei Verwendung eines langen Kabels somit den Sound, ganz gleich, ob es direkt mit dem Tuner oder zunächst mit einem komplexen Effekt-Board verbunden ist.

Der Pitchblack XS erlaubt Wechsel zwischen dem True Bypass- und dem Ultra Buffer-Modus, um in jeder Lebenslage den optimalen Sound zu erzielen.

The Pitchblack XS not only features a true bypass for outputting the sound exactly as it was input, but now includes a built-in ULTRA BUFFER.

Why is this important?

The majority of electric guitars use passive pickups with a high impedance output. When you are using a cable there is a loss of tone, usually high frequencies, after about 6 m (around 18 feet) and this problem gets worse the longer your cable. A buffer boosts the signal over long cables to avoid loss of tone, keeping it clean and clear - even when your pedal is off.

The ULTRA BUFFER enhances the sound quality in bypass mode, so that you can still maintain audio quality even when using a long cable to connect to the tuner, or when inserting the tuner into a complex effects board.

On the Pitchblack XS, you can switch between true bypass and the ULTRA BUFFER, according to your tastes and environment.

When we released our original Compressor back in 2011, it quickly became a favourite among guitar and bass players alike who were searching for something more than the typical oversimplified controls found on most compressor pedals. Although our original Compressor sounded great on bass (and still does!) we set out to do even better. 
On top of the full range of features and controls normally only seen in high end studio equipment, such as input and gain reduction metering, independent attack and release controls, a mix knob for parallel compression, and an external sidechain insert, we’ve now added a fully variable sidechain high pass filter, and a two position ‘tone + colour’ circuit which adds gentle tone sculpting and harmonic distortion, giving your bass some delicious character.

Wenn man Bjorn Juhl fragt, eignen sich weder Spring-, Hall- oder Room-Effekte als Reverb für Gitarristen oder Bassisten - aus diesem Grund kombiniert er in einem einzigartigen Design die Stärken der unterschiedlichen Effekt-Typen. Der One Control Prussian Blue Reverb liegt klanglich näher an einem Hall als an einem Spring Reverb, ist in seinem Voicing aber weniger hell ausgerichtet. Durch eine zufällige Modulation der Decay-Time des Reverb-Signals erzeugt das Pedal das Feeling einer natürlichen Schallausbreitung im Raum, dabei ist die Modulation so programmiert, dass sie die Vibration der Saiten nachbildet. Der extrem hohe Dynamik-Bereich des Prussian Blue Reverb ist 5x höher als bei vergleichbaren Pedalen und die regelbare Decay-Time von 2 ms bis 2 s erlaubt ein breites Spektrum an möglichen Sounds. Die Early Reflections sind bewusst kurz gehalten um die Zeitspanne zwischen Attack und dem Einsetzen des Effekts so kurz wie möglich zu halten. Über den Kill Dry-Schalter lässt sich das Original-Signal komplett muten - perfekt um das Pedal zum Beispiel in einem parallelen FX Loop zu nutzen. Das Pedal harmoniert ohne Probleme mit elektrischen und akustischen Gitarren und Bässen.

When you ask Bjorn Juhl, ideal reverb tones for guitarists and bassists are neither spring, hall, nor room - so he created a mixture of all their strengths and combined them in the One Control Prussian Blue Reverb. The general sound is closer to hall than to a spring tone, but not as bright as hall reverb. By randomly modulating the decay time of reverb signals, the pedal creates the feeling of sounds spreading in the space while still remaining mono. This random modulation is programmed to imitate the string vibration of guitars and basses, giving the pedal a natural and solid but not too plain effect. The dynamic range of the Prussian Blue Reverb is five times larger than a general spring reverb. It is filtered to prevent it from having too much tremble or saturation. The decay time can be set from 2 ms to 2 s to choose between a soft reverberation or a long-lasting reverberation. The Prussian Blue Reverb's early reflection is set to be short. Thanks to the short duration between the guitar/bass attack to the reverb startup and the overwhelmingly natural reverb tone, unnatural reverb is simply not present in the final sound. The Kill Dry switch allows you to mute the dry signal completely. This pedal is designed for guitars and basses. It is not only suitable for electric guitars and basses but also for acoustic guitars and basses as well.

Mike Matthews, the founder of Electro-Harmonix, is a colorful figure. The hippie movement and Jimi Hendrix's evolution of the electric guitar served as a catalyst for him to develop the Big Muff distortion unit, which is still popular today. After phenomenal growth of his company in the golden age of rock'n'roll, the 1970s, disillusionment followed in the early 1980s - and finally bankruptcy.
