The MXR M287 Sub Octave Bass Fuzz is a true colossus among bass effect units and impresses with a bloodcurdling sound that makes the walls tremble. The octaver, whose circuit is based on the growl section of the popular MCR Bass Octave Deluxe, adds an octave below the played tone for a powerful low-end punch. In addition, the integrated fuzz not only offers a 2-band tone control for bass and treble, but also two voices. While the first voicing delivers a warm, gently compressive sound, the second is convincing with its brighter and more aggressive sound development. To ensure that the natural character of the bass used and the definition of the tone are not lost, the dry signal can also be mixed in continuously, with the separate mid-range control providing an increased punch if required.

Portal is an active signal mixer with two working modes: parallel and series. In parallel mode, the signal mixer has two send/return loops and one main output, which can combine three independent inputs into one, or can be used as an active ABY as needed. In series mode, A and B are series channels. When the A/B switch is closed, channel A or B is bypassed. When all three switches are closed, it is true bypass.

Der Electro-Harmonix Big Muff hat im Laufe seiner Geschichte viele Versionen erlebt. Das Gerät, das wir hier haben, ist die V4-Version, die mit Billy Corgan von den Smashing Pumpkins in Verbindung gebracht wird. Dieses Modell nutzt die EH-1322-Platine und ist vollständig im Originalzustand. Was den Klang betrifft: Probiert es selbst im TonePedia-Player aus und vergleicht es auch mit anderen Modellen.

Der EHX Big Muff Pi V4 war etwa zwei Jahre lang in Produktion, weshalb er relativ schwer zu finden ist.

The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff has had many versions during its lifetime. The unit we have here is the V4 one which is associated with Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. The unit uses the EH-1322 board and is all stock. As to sound, try it out for yourself using the TonePedia player, compare it to other models too.

The EHX Big Muff Pi V4 was in production for approx two years, so it is relatively hard to find.
