Famous for its noiseless clean sustain, the Philosopher’s Tone has staked its claim in the crowded world of compressor pedals. In addition to Volume and Sustain controls, the Philosopher’s Tone features a parallel Blend knob that allows the musician to mix their instrument’s original tone with the compressed sound effect. This technique restores natural pick-attack and allows more extreme sustain settings to remain musical. The Treble control provides up to a 6db cut or boost at 2kHz for fine-tuning the frequency response of the effect. The Philosopher’s Tone features true-bypass switching and internal 18V power rails for maximum clean headroom, even when used with hot pickups and line level signals.

The Archer Ikon is sort of a 2 in one pedal. It can be used as just a clean boost by turning the gain all the way down. As you introduce gain it will attenuate the clean signal but you will find that there is a magical blend in between.

A uniquely designed steel enclosure made with quality components throughout. My goal was to spare no expense. I realize that sometimes in the world of guitar gear, there isn’t always one answer in choosing the best components and designs, so I just picked my favorites. This includes Switchcraft 11 open frame jacks, and a super quiet soft touch switching system via an internal relay.

I have been working on this project for the better part of three years, as a collaboration and with engineering by Jon Ashley of Bondi Effects. I feel that the pedal is unique in design and sonically unlike anything I have ever heard, especially in the lower gain and boost settings. There is a subtlety that feels more like a vintage pedal than a modification of a classic. There are two circuits present in the pedal, one distortion and one preamp boost, running at 18v via an internal voltage regulator. I made this pedal with the idea to create a distinction for my own sound, and what I found is that it is an extremely useful tool for capturing a lot of different types of sounds. I am most proud of the lower gain side, as I feel it is the most unique section of the pedal, but I must also include that the gain section is extremely sweet sounding throughout, especially for heavy and complex chords. There is a midrange punch that I love and a warmth and thickness that reminds me a bit of a ribbon mic. When the development of this pedal turned into something new and unique, it became the catalyst to starting 1981 Inventions, so I decided to make this the first official release.

Das EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 bietet Distortion, Boost und einen regelbaren Octave-Up Effekt in einem kompakten Effektpedal. Die 'Amplitude' Sektion des Pedals basiert auf dem klassischen 'White Face' Distortion Pedal, die Schaltung wurde jedoch um drei wählbare Clipping-Modi erweitert. Die erste Position (No Diode OpAmp Drive) bietet einen satten Drive bei maximalem Volume. Die zweite Position nutzt zwei Silizium-Dioden und eine LED in einer asymmetrischen Clipping-Konfiguration und erzeugt einen leicht komprimierten, smoothen Crunch, der an einen übersteuerten Verstärker erinnert. Die dritte Position nutzt zwei Silizium-Dioden und erzeugt den klassischen 'White Face' Sound. Die Octave-Up Sektion arbeitet komplett analog und lässt sich über einen Regler oder ein optionales Expression Pedal stufenlos mit der Verzerrung mischen. Der monophone Effekt arbeitet am 'saubersten' mit einzelnen Noten oberhalb des 12. Bundes, die über den Neck Pickup gespielt werden. Akkorde erzeugen einen chaotischen, 'scheppernden' Sound. Dreht man den Octave-Regler voll auf erzeugt das Sunn O))) Life Pedal V2 einen dreckigen, wütenden Fuzz-Sound, der an das Super Fuzz erinnert. Die 'Magnitude' Sektion ist ein MOSFET Booster, der Röhrenverstärker in die Sättigung treibt. Der Booster arbeitet komplett clean und fügt dem Signal selbst keine Verzerrung hinzu, bietet dafür aber ein extrem hohes Output Level um das Front End des Amps zu pushen. The EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 offers distortion, boost and an adjustable octave-up effect in a compact effects pedal. The 'Amplitude' section of the pedal is based on the classic 'White Face' distortion pedal, but the circuitry has been expanded to include three selectable clipping modes. The first position (No Diode OpAmp Drive) offers a rich drive at maximum volume. The second position uses two silicon diodes and a LED in an asymmetrical clipping configuration and produces a slightly compressed, smooth crunch reminiscent of an overdriven amp. The third position uses two silicon diodes and produces the classic 'white face' sound. The Octave-Up section is completely analogue and can be mixed with the distortion via a knob or an optional expression pedal. The monophonic effect works 'cleanest' with single notes above the 12th fret played through the neck pickup. Chords produce a chaotic, 'clanging' sound. Turning the Octave control all the way up, the Sunn O))) Life Pedal V2 produces a dirty, angry fuzz sound reminiscent of the Super Fuzz. The 'Magnitude' section is a MOSFET booster that drives tube amps into saturation. The booster works completely clean and adds no distortion to the signal itself, but offers an extremely high output level to push the front end of the amp. The signal path goes Octave > Distortion > Boost, and both sections can be used independently of each other.

Der EarthQuaker Devices Plumes basiert auf dem legendären grünen Overdrive Pedal, das seit Jahrzehnten als Industriestandard gilt. Im Zusammenspiel mit einem guten Röhrenverstärker erzeugt der Plumes eine warme, transparente Sättigung. EarthQuaker verzichtet auf den bewährten JRC4558 OpAmp und die BJT Buffer und ersetzt sie in der Schaltung durch Low Noise JFET OpAmps für einen präziseren Sound mit deutlich geringerem Grundrauschen. Mit 10 Megaohm Eingangsimpedanz bietet das Pedal einen wunderbar klaren, detaillierten Sound. Der Arbeitsbereich des Tone-Reglers wurde ebenfalls angepasst um mit einem satteren Low End ein breiteres Spektrum an möglichen Sounds zu bieten. 

Zusätzlich bietet der Plumes drei wählbare Clipping-Modi um den Sound des Pedals an möglichst viele Stilrichtungen und unterschiedlichstes Equipment anpassen zu können. Mode 1 bietet symmetrisches Clipping, basierend auf einem Paar LEDs. Das Setting bietet den sattesten Crunch und den klassischen Sound eines übersteuerten Röhrenverstärkers. Mode 2 ist ein Clean Boost ohne Soft Clipping, perfekt um den Clean Sound im Mix nach vorne zu bringen oder den Preamp eines Verstärkers in die Sättigung zu fahren. Mode 3 nutzt asymmetrisches Clipping mit Silizium Dioden und klingt am ehesten nach einem originalen Screamer. Im direkten Vergleich liefert das Setting aber mehr Output und klarere Clean Sounds.

Darüber hinaus verfügt der Plumes auch über EarthQuaker Devices 'Soft Touch' Flexi-Switch-Funktion, mit der du im Handumdrehen zwischen Momentary Modus und traditionellem Latching wählen kannst.

This is the crunchiest setting the Plumes has to offer. When played through a clean amp, it will deliver that classic crunchy valve amp tone. Mode 2 is a clean boost without soft clipping and with straight OpAmp drive, perfect for pushing your clean tone out in front or driving the preamp of an already overdriven amp into breakup saturation. Mode 3 is an asymmetrical silicon diode arrangement like an original screamer but with more output and clean clarity.

Das EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas wurde speziell für die einzigartige Wata von der legendären Experimental-Band Boris entwickelt, eine der härtesten Bands, die jemals aus Japan hervorgegangen sind. Das Hizumitas ist eine originalgetreue Nachbildung von Watas Distortion Pedal Elk BM Sustainar. Das Elk Sustainar ist eine japanische Variante des bekannteren Triangle BMP. Während der Entwicklung analysierten die Designer von EQD mehrere Vintage-Exemplare des BMP sowie verschiedene Versionen des Elk und stellten schnell fest, dass all diese Pedale sich recht deutlich voneinander unterschieden. Um klanglich den sprichwörtlichen Geist in der Flasche einzufangen, gab es nur eine Möglichkeit: Sie mussten Watas Originalpedal in die Finger kriegen. Glücklicherweise war sie so großzügig, ihr geliebtes Pedal um die halbe Welt zu schicken und EQD entdeckte, dass es etwas Besonderes hatte, das die anderen nicht hatten: eine besonders heftige Sättigung, eine ordentliche "Schippe Dreck" und einen massiven Bassbereich. Und dennoch lieferte dieses Pedal ein klares, dynamisches Klangbild mit genug Mitten und Höhen, um sich bei Boris durchzusetzen. Das Ziel war klar: EarthQuaker Devices wollten mit dem Hizumitas all diese Eigenschaften unverfälscht nachbilden! Das Hizumitas sorgt für heftigste Verzerrung und sanftes Sustain. Darunter liegt ein düsterer, körniger Grit, der so klingt, als ob die angeschlossenen Boxen gleich platzen müssten. Dennoch bleiben eine erstaunliche Klarheit und ein aufgeräumtes Klangbild, das man bei einem derart aggressiven Effekt nicht erwarten würde. Der Sustain-Regler hat einen großen Sättigungsbereich, selbst kleine Änderungen haben einen großen Einfluss auf den Gesamtklang. Das Hizumitas reagiert sehr sensibel auf verschiedene Pickup-Typen und Spieltechniken. Power Chords klingen dramatisch und wuchtig, während offene Akkorde dynamisch und mit fantastischer Notentrennung rüberkommen. Und Single Note Leads klingen vor allem am Hals-Pickup strahlend und kraftvoll. Der Tone-Regler ist für diese Art von Distortion untypisch und kann in Verbindung mit der Sustain-Einstellung den Charakter der Verzerrung drastisch verändern. Dreht man den Regler mit dem Uhrzeigersinn werden die Bässe angehoben, dreht man den Regler gegen den Uhrzeigersinn werden die Höhen betont. Der Tone-Regler kann von einer aggressiven Mid-Range bis zu durchdringenden Höhen gehen, wenn man ihn gegen den Uhrzeigersinn dreht. Wenn man ihn im Uhrzeigersinn dreht, werden die Mitten weniger präsent, die Höhen werden gezähmt und ein gewaltiges, donnerndes Low-End kommt in den Vordergrund. Der Volume-Regler bietet massiven Output Gain - die Unity-Gain-Einstellung liegt etwa bei der 9- / 10-Uhr-Position des Volume-Reglers. Bei jeder höheren Einstellung geht der Signalpegel durch die Decke.

The EarthQuaker Devices Hizumitas was designed for the one and only Wata from the legendary experimental band Boris, one of the heaviest bands ever to come out of Japan. Hizumitas is a faithful recreation of Wata's go-to distortion pedal, the Elk BM Sustainar. The Elk is a Japanese variant of the very well-known Triangle BMP. The designers at EQD tried several vintage BMP's during development, found that each pedal was wildly different and realized that to truly capture the magic they needed the original. Wata graciously sent her beloved pedal halfway around the world, and EQD discovered that it had something special the others didn't have: heavy saturation with a gritty edge and massive bottom while maintaining a clear and dynamic tone with enough mids and top end to cut through any sludge. The studious wizards at EQD have built all of those characteristics into the Hizumitas! The pedal brings loads of heavy distortion and smooth sustain and an underlying grit that sounds like the speakers are on the verge of ripping apart while delivering amazing and unexpected clarity from such an aggressive sounding pedal. The Sustain control has a wide range of saturation, meaning even small changes will significantly affect the overall tone. Hizumitas responds excellently to all types of pickups and playing dynamics. Your power chords will sound huge and heavy, while open chords will be dynamic with fantastic note separation, and single note leads will come across smooth and powerful, especially with the neck pickup. The Tone control is atypical for this type of distortion and can drastically change the distortion's character in conjunction with the Sustain setting. Bass frequencies are boosted clockwise, and treble frequencies are boosted counterclockwise. The tone control can go from an aggressive mid-range grind to piercing highs as you turn it counterclockwise. As you turn it clockwise, the mids become less present, the highs are tamed, and a humongous, thundering low end comes to the forefront. The Volume control offers massive output gain with unity at around 9-10 o'clock and beyond that, prepare to hear and feel the power of Hizumitas!

Hier sind ein paar Hinweise, wie Sie den Zoar besser verstehen und optimal einsetzen können.
Wenn die Regler Bass, Middle und Treble alle auf Null gestellt sind, durchläuft kein Signal das Pedal. So funktioniert ein passiver Equalizer nun mal.
Wenn Sie einen dieser drei Frequenzbereich-Regler auf einen höheren Wert einstellen, wirkt sich das auch auf die beiden anderen Frequenzbereiche aus.
Wenn Sie alle drei Bänder auf „12 Uhr“ (Mittelposition) einstellen, ergibt sich ein völlig anderer Frequenzbereich, als wenn Sie sie alle auf „9 Uhr“ einstellen – und das gilt natürlich auch für jede andere abgeglichene Position.
Wie Sie sehen – eine sehr interaktive Sache. Ein guter Ausgangspunkt ist es, alle drei Frequenzbandregler auf „12 Uhr“ (Mittelposition) zu stellen und dann mit jedem einzelnen Regler zu experimentieren.
Mit dem Dreiband-Equalizer und dem Gain-Regler bieten sich Ihnen nahezu unbegrenzte Möglichkeiten zum Maßschneidern Ihres Sounds. Aber das echte „Betriebsgeheimnis“ des Zoar ist der Weight-Regler. Mit diesem Regler legen Sie fest, wie groß der Anteil des Tieftonbereichs ist, der in die EQ-Schaltung geleitet wird. Damit lässt sich der Klangcharakter dramatisch verändern. Stellen Sie einfach die Regler des Dreiband-Equalizers auf „12 Uhr“ (Mittelposition) ein und drehen Sie am WeightRegler, um ein Gefühl dafür zu bekommen, wie er den Klang beeinflusst. Von einem reinen Clean-Boost über eine HighGain-Verzerrung bis hin zu Overdrive und knackigem Hi-FiFuzz bietet Ihnen diese Funktion das volle Spektrum.
Der Level-Regler hat etwa bei „12 Uhr“ (Mittelposition) den Verstärkungsfaktor Eins (Unity Gain) – dies hängt jedoch von der Stellung der anderen Regler ab. Neben der Steuerung der Ausgangslautstärke spielt es auch eine gewisse Rolle bei der Steuerung der Klangcharakteristik des Zoar. Indem Sie den Level-Regler und die drei Frequenzbänder des Equalizers (Anheben der Frequenzbänder und Reduzieren der Ausgangslautstärke) kombinieren, können Sie dramatische Effekte erzielen, die an traditionelle Tiefpassfilter erinnern. 
Möchten Sie Ihrem Sound die sprichwörtlichen Flügel verleihen? Dann versuchen Sie, Zoar mit höherer Spannung zu betreiben! Zoar kann mit einer Spannung von bis zu 18 V Gleichstrom betrieben werden. Höhere Spannungen verändern den Frequenzgang; Dynamik und Ansprechzeit verbessern sich. Wenn Sie eine 18-Volt-Stromversorgung verwenden, klingen die cleanen Signalanteile offener, die Verzerrung wirkt druckvoller, während einzelne Noten artikulierter zu hören sind, der Treble-Regler deckt ein breiteres Spektrum ab, ohne rau zu klingen – und der Ausgangspegel ist beinahe doppelt so hoch! Das Resultat ähnelt durchaus dem Sound einer Wand aus kraftvollen Röhrenverstärkern!

This meticulously crafted box has six knobs that allow you to truly customize your sound with the Level, Weight, Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. 
The Gain control on Zoar™ goes from the edge of break up all the way over the cliff into the crunchy, grinding abyss. The character of the distortion is heavily dependent on the setting of the Weight control as well as the pickup type and further fine-tuned by the EQ section.
The 3-Band EQ and Gain controls give you nearly unlimited options with great focus and sensitive precision, but the real powerhouse of Zoar™ is the Weight control. This control dictates the amount of low end that is passed into the circuit, thus controlling the entire character of the pedal. Simply dial in the 3-Band EQ to 12 o’clock and adjust the Weight to see how drastically it dictates your sound. From a mere clean boost to a high gain distortion to overdrive to the crispy Hi-Fi fuzz territory, this function gives you everything.
The Level control hits unity around noon, but this is dependent on where the other controls are set. In addition to controlling the output volume, it also plays a small part in controlling the voice of Zoar™. By adjusting the Level control with any combination of EQ (boosting the frequency bands and cutting the output volume), you can achieve drastically different curves that have the feel of the more traditional low pass filter type tone control.
Want to elevate your sonic spirit to a higher level? Try running Zoar™ at higher voltage! Zoar™ can handle power up to 18v DC. Higher voltages will yield a different frequency response with more defined dynamics and a faster response. When powered at 18v, the range of clean tones are widened, dirty tones become punchier with better note articulation, low frequencies are tightened, higher frequencies will cover a broader spectrum without becoming harsh and the output volume nearly doubles! The experience is not unlike plugging into a wall of high wattage tube amplifiers!
