V-3 features the same options as the V-2, so it’s basically the same product in the context of secondary options. However, we played around with the complex opto-system a lot. The main difference between V-3 and V-2 is in the modulation EQ. V-2 modulates just a slight part of the main tone (mid-range focused modulation), while V-3 blends in nicely with the main tone and modulates it without changing the EQ. V-3 has a wider modulation and brings more depth.

Based on an infamous circuit from a classic 1980’s high gain distortion pedal, the Ratsbane is Brian’s answer to the countless requests he has received to build his interpretation of this much-loved design.
The full, dynamic range, and sheer sonic force of this circuit is what makes it a true king amongst distortion pedals.  Turn the distortion control all the way down for a deep but powerful gain booster. Crank it up and you will find rich harmonic overtones and a throaty, fuzz-like distortion.  The “secret sauce” for this circuit has always been the filter control.  Turn it counter-clockwise to cut straight through the mix with precision and high-frequency attack that lets your tone soar with absolute clarity.  Turn it clockwise to filter the top end, for a warm, buttery, yet clear tone. If you want to reverse the function of the heel-down and toe-down positions, the DVP4 has another internal switch that allows you to do so.

 Over the years, we have had many different types of Marshall™ amps on our workbench, some for repairs and others for customization. Being huge fans of the sound of these classic amplifiers, that still continues to excite us through the music of so many artists, we decided to try and capture its mojo – the true essence of the soul of this sound – and carefully place it in a little box. Thus the Room #40 was born!
Using jfet technology, we tried to stay loyal to the tone and feel of the following legendary Marshall™ amps: the non master volume series PLEXI™ Super Lead (1959/1987) & Super Bass (1992) and the master volume series JMP™ & JCM800™ (2203/2204).
We emphasized on emulating the compression and sag coming from the power amp section, when these amps are pushed to the edge, while at the same time giving access to two famous mods, mod #39 (PLEXI™) and mod #34 (JMP™ & JCM800™). Of course the manifestation of our love for the late great Eddie Van Halen, who created the so called “brown sound” using an ohmite variac (variable transformer used to lower or raise the voltage going into the amplifier), could not be absent from this endeavor.
