Der Sound des Double Dragon ist vollständig analog und bietet eine tiefe, fette Sub-Oktave, die als Grundlage dient, sowie eine höhere Oktave, die irgendwo zwischen einer Octavia und einem Superfuzz liegt. Diese Oktave ist grobkörnig und mit einem durchdringenden Midrange-Biss versehen, der sich durch den Mix schneidet. Der Effekt füllt den Raum aus und lässt deine Gitarre doppelt so groß klingen. Der OCT−-Regler kontrolliert den Mix der tiefen Sub-Oktave, während der OCT+-Regler die obere Oktave und Verzerrung steuert, die über den rechten Fußschalter aktiviert wird. Der linke Fußschalter schaltet das Gerät ein und aus, der rechte aktiviert den OCT+-Effekt.

Das Double Dragon eignet sich besonders gut in Kombination mit Overdrive-Pedalen wie dem Tube Screamer, um den Mittenbereich zu verstärken, oder mit Fuzz, um maximalen Chaosfaktor zu erzeugen. Für eine synthähnliche Textur empfiehlt sich die Kombination mit Pitch-Vibrato. Die Tracking-Eigenheiten des Double Dragon kommen durch solche Kombinationen noch lebendiger und interessanter zur Geltung.

The Volume control adjusts the master output level and also provides a boost. The Dry control mixes your clean signal with the octave effects – from a clear to a completely “wet”, glitchy vintage synth sound. The OCT− knob controls the mix of the low sub-octave, while the OCT+ knob controls the upper octave and distortion, which is activated via the right footswitch. The left footswitch turns the unit on and off, while the right footswitch activates the OCT+ effect.

The Double Dragon is particularly well suited for use in combination with overdrive pedals such as the Tube Screamer to boost the midrange, or with fuzz to create maximum chaos. For a synth-like texture, we recommend combining it with pitch vibrato. The tracking characteristics of the Double Dragon come into their own even more vividly and interestingly with such combinations.

Mit dem Heavenly Lake V2 präsentiert Tone City ein vollwertiges Effektpedal, das auf den klanglichen Stärken der beliebten Tape Machine und Tiny Spring basiert, diese jedoch konsequent weiterentwickelt und in einem leistungsstärkeren Format vereint. Statt Mini-Pedal setzt Tone City hier bewusst auf mehr Raum für erweiterte Schaltungen, zusätzliche Regelmöglichkeiten und maximale Klangqualität.

Der Reverb-Bereich orientiert sich am Tiny Spring, wurde jedoch deutlich ausgebaut. Dank Decay- und Tone-Reglern lässt sich der Hall nun präzise anpassen – von kurzen, knackigen Federhall-Sounds bis hin zu tiefen, atmosphärischen Klangräumen. Das Ergebnis ist ein deutlich flexiblerer und musikalischerer Reverb, der sich mühelos in jedes Setup integrieren lässt.

Die Echo-Sektion ist eine komplette Neuentwicklung. Sie kombiniert den charakteristischen Tape-Sound der Tape Machine mit der Wärme klassischer analoger Delays und bietet eine Verzögerungszeit von bis zu 1200 ms bei extrem geringem Rauschen. Zusätzlich sorgt ein integriertes Modulationsmodul mit Rate- und Depth-Regelung für lebendige, schwebende Wiederholungen mit leicht psychedelischem Charakter. Die Modulation wird dabei übersichtlich über eine LED visualisiert.

In der V2-Version wurden Schaltung und Komponenten nochmals gezielt verbessert. Der Hallpfad wurde optimiert und klingt nun noch authentischer nach klassischem Federhall. Gleichzeitig konnte das bei halllastigen Effekten auftretende Grundrauschen deutlich reduziert werden.

With the Heavenly Lake V2, Tone City presents a fully-fledged effects pedal that builds upon the sonic strengths of the popular Tape Machine and Tiny Spring, but consistently develops them further and combines them in a more powerful format. Instead of a mini-pedal, Tone City deliberately opted for more space for expanded circuitry, additional controls, and maximum sound quality.

The reverb section is based on the Tiny Spring but has been significantly enhanced. Thanks to Decay and Tone controls, the reverb can now be precisely adjusted - from short, crisp spring reverb sounds to deep, atmospheric soundscapes. The result is a significantly more flexible and musical reverb that integrates effortlessly into any setup.

The echo section is a completely new development. It combines the characteristic tape sound of the Tape Machine with the warmth of classic analog delays and offers a delay time of up to 1200 ms with extremely low noise. Additionally, an integrated modulation module with rate and depth controls creates vibrant, shimmering repetitions with a slightly psychedelic character. The modulation is clearly visualized via an LED.

In the V2 version, the circuitry and components have been further refined. The reverb path has been optimized and now sounds even more authentic, like classic spring reverb. At the same time, the background noise that occurs with reverb-heavy effects has been significantly reduced.

Anhand der Spezifikationen des in den 1960ern vorgestellten VOX-Pedals bietet dieses Wah-Wah denselben legendären Sound. Neu sind der Netzteilanschluss und die gepufferte Eingangsbuchse, die eine Klangfärbung des Gitarrensignals bei ausgeschaltetem Pedal verhindert. Die Induktionsspule dieses Pedals wurde ganz klar vom VOX-Original inspiriert und bietet eine entsprechend größere Dynamik und einen fetteren Sound. Diese Neuauflage ist besonders für Gitarristen aller Genres gedacht, deren Signalweg ohne Wah-Pedal unvollständig wäre.

Based on the specifications of the original pedal developed by VOX in the ’60s, the new Wah-Wah offers guitarists the same legendary tone with the addition of AC power capability and a buffered input jack for preserving the unprocessed guitar tone when the pedal is not engaged. The pedal’s inductor has undergone a redesign to be closer in specification to the original VOX wah inductors, for improved dynamics and tone. These additions will benefit players of all genres who use a wah pedal as an integral part of their sound.

Geblieben sind das große Frequenzspektrum von 31,25 Hz bis 16 kHz, getrennte In- und Output-Levels sowie der Betrieb mit 18 Volt für mehr Headroom.

Edward Van Halen's Gitarrensound auf dem Debüt Album von1978 katapultierte ihn schlagartig in dem Olymp des Rock und selbst nach mehr als 25 Jahren hat die Gitarrenarbeit auf diesem Album nichts von ihrer Faszination eingebüßt. Den unglaublichen Sound, den EVH auf dieser Platte kreierte, gehört zu den absoluten Meilensteinen des Rock und ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieses Sounds war von vornherein der MXR Phase 90. Der Phase 90 trug maßgeblich zu den zeitlosen Gitarrensounds von “Eruption,“ “Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love,“ “On Fire,“ und “Atomic Punk“, sowie vieler anderer klassischer Van Halen Stücke bei. Entstanden aus einer Zusammenarbeit zwischen Eddie Van Halen und Jim Dunlop ist der EVH 90 eine komplett neu designte Version des legendären Phase 90.
