In order to achieve our concept of ideal sound, we began by restructuring all of the components in an effects unit based on our expertise and extensive experience cultivated and accumulated over the years, and our innate sense of tone, and ultimately arrived at our Integrated Series which was started as FREE THE TONE’s 15th anniversary project. The first release in this series is a pair of overdrive pedals.

We sought extended dynamic range, brilliant overtones, long sustain, quick but fat tone, and of course, the most important thing, pure and clean overdrive sound. In order to realize all of these things, we thoroughly investigated various electronic circuits and parts and all of the factors related to sound such as magnetic fields and/or resonance. We also employed the best quality materials we could find for the case and knobs. After a few years and many prototypes, we finally completed the STRING SLINGER and FIRE MIST.

FM-1V Fire Mist

In the “BLACK VEHICLE” we implemented a newly developed HTS (Holistic Tonal Solution) circuit for electric bass guitars. The HTS circuit, a synonym for FREE THE TONE products, prevents a thin sound, makes the texture of the sounds from the unit uniform when it is turned on and off, and feeds the received signals to the following circuit in an optimal condition.

In addition, newly designed EQ circuits and MIX circuit are also installed in the “BLACK VEHICLE”. The TREBLE and BASS EQ circuits affect only the drive sound. The unprocessed original signal (dry sound) is mixed with the drive sound in the MIX circuit. The EQ and MIX circuits minimize signal phase error, prevent the sound from being buried when the drive amount is increased, and realize an ultimate drive sound that has a clear pitch and contour of sound.

OVERDRIVELAND / ODL-1

The QUAD-ARROW DISTORTION has a new power circuit that was developed for the FREE THE TONE Custom SOV-2 Overdrive.

The sound has been refined to produce a powerful distortion pedal. The voltage is boosted internally to ±15Vdc.

This distortion pedal features wild power made possible by this voltage. The effect follows the guitar’s output in a natural way, going from distortion to crunchy or clean as the guitar’s volume is turned down. It responds to picking nuances in the same way.
