The TS Mini is a compact version of Ibanez’s legendary Tube Screamer overdrive pedal. It delivers the same classic drive, tone and level controls in a form-factor roughly half the size of the original. It uses true-bypass switching and 100% analog circuitry to preserve the cleanest signal path. It is optimized for pedalboards where space is at a premium while retaining the characteristic “mid-hump” overdrive that made the Tube Screamer family iconic.

The Tone City Dry Martini was inspired by a very popular white and black boutique overdrive pedal from the USA with a famous aggressive character. The pedal features a switchable Strong mode with increased low-end definition and covers a wide range of possible sounds: lower gain settings create a characteristic low-gain boost while higher gain settings result in a powerful and punchy medium-gain drive that verges on full-on distortion. The Dry Martini works perfectly with the Clean channel of most amplifiers for thick, gritty drive sounds with a nice, defined chunk for rhythm or lead parts.

Manchmal entstehen die besten Ideen aus den größten Missgeschicken. So ist es auch beim JHS The Fumble. Im Mai 2025 brachte JHS das Pedal-Kit NOTADÜMBLË auf den Markt, das zwei legendäre Dumble-Sounds in einem kompakten Baukasten vereinen sollte. Die Overdrive-Seite funktionierte wie geplant - ein Boutique-Drive, der die Lead-Töne von Larry Carlton, Eric Johnson und Robben Ford in sich trug. Die Clean-Seite jedoch war ein Missgriff: statt des geplanten „A Box Later“-Schaltkreises landete versehentlich eine völlig andere Schaltung auf der Platine, die ursprünglich für John Mayer entwickelt und dann vergessen worden war.

Dieses Missgeschick führte zu einem der kuriosesten Geschichten in der Pedalgeschichte: Das versehentlich verbaute Circuit wurde von den Musikern geliebt, und nachdem das NOTADÜMBLË V1 ausverkauft und eingestellt war, wünschten sich viele Gitarristen genau diesen Sound als eigenständiges Pedal. So entstand The Fumble - ein Pedal, das den ursprünglichen „Fehler“ in ein eigenes, kompaktes Gehäuse packt, zu einem erschwinglichen Preis.

Doch die Geschichte wird noch skurriler: Die zugrunde liegende Schaltung, bekannt als Dumble BBC-1, ist eigentlich kein Dumble-Design, sondern ein JFET-Vorverstärker, der in den 1970er Jahren für Barcus Berry Akustik-Preamps entwickelt wurde. Howard Dumble hatte diese kleine Utility-Box adaptiert, einige lokale Gitarristen in Los Angeles damit versorgt und den gleichen Schaltkreis später in seinen legendären Verstärkern verwendet - bekannt als „FET Mode“. Das bedeutet, dass der ikonische Dumble FET-Sound, der in Amps im sechsstelligen Bereich steckt, auf einem kleinen Akustikvorverstärker aus den 70ern basiert. The Fumble ist also eine Kopie einer Kopie einer Kopie - drei Generationen später, als eines der ungewöhnlichsten Pedal-Ketten-Abenteuer der Geschichte.

Funktional überzeugt The Fumble durch seine Einfachheit und Vielseitigkeit: Zwei Regler steuern den Sound – der Output als Master-Lautstärke und der Input als einzigartiger „Gain/Bass-Attenuator“. Voll aufgedreht liefert der Input vollen, satten Sound, zurückgedreht wird der Ton dünner, straffer und perkussiver. Das Pedal kann auf vielfältige Weise eingesetzt werden: als Puffer und Clean-Boost am Anfang der Kette, um Overdrives zu treiben, um den Front-End eines verzerrten Amps zu kontrollieren, oder als Solo-Boost am Ende der Kette.

Der Name „Fumble“ passt perfekt: Schon seit 2012 lagerte das Konzept intern bei JHS, ohne realisiert zu werden. Und genau in dem Moment, in dem das größte Missgeschick der Firmengeschichte passierte, war der Name bereit - eine Art universeller Punchline, die jahrelang Jahre auf ihren Einsatz gewartet hatte.

The Fumble ist damit nicht nur ein Pedal, sondern ein Stück Gitarrengeschichte: aus einem Fehler geboren, von Musikern geliebt und mit einem Sound, der direkt aus den Tiefen der Dumble-Mythologie stammt – oder besser gesagt, aus einem kuriosen, historischen JFET-Vorverstärker.

Sometimes the best ideas arise from the biggest mishaps. Such is the case with the JHS The Fumble. In May 2025, JHS launched the NOTADÜMBLË pedal kit, which was intended to combine two legendary Dumble sounds in a compact unit. The overdrive side worked as planned - a boutique drive that embodied the lead tones of Larry Carlton, Eric Johnson, and Robben Ford. The clean side, however, was a misstep: instead of the intended "A Box Later" circuit, a completely different circuit, originally designed for John Mayer and then forgotten, accidentally ended up on the circuit board.

This mishap led to one of the most curious stories in pedal history: the accidentally installed circuit was beloved by musicians, and after the NOTADÜMBLË V1 sold out and was discontinued, many guitarists longed for this exact sound as a standalone pedal. Thus, The Fumble was created - a pedal that packs the original "flaw" into its own compact housing, at an affordable price.

But the story gets even more bizarre: The underlying circuit, known as the Dumble BBC-1, isn't actually a Dumble design, but a JFET preamp developed in the 1970s for Barcus Berry acoustic preamps. Howard Dumble adapted this small utility box, supplied it to some local guitarists in Los Angeles, and later used the same circuit in his legendary amplifiers - known as "FET Mode." This means that the iconic Dumble FET sound found in six-figure price range amps is based on a small acoustic preamp from the '70s. The Fumble is therefore a copy of a copy of a copy - three generations later, in one of the most unusual pedal-chain adventures in history.

Functionally, The Fumble impresses with its simplicity and versatility: Two controls manage the sound - the Output as the master volume and the Input as a unique gain/bass attenuator. At full power, the input delivers a full, rich sound; at full power, the tone becomes thinner, tighter, and more percussive. The pedal can be used in a variety of ways: as a buffer and clean boost at the beginning of the signal chain, to drive overdrives, to control the front end of a distorted amp, or as a solo boost at the end of the chain.

The name "Fumble" is a perfect fit: The concept had been languishing internally at JHS since 2012, never to be realized. And precisely at the moment when the biggest blunder in the company's history occurred, the name was ready - a kind of universal punchline that had been waiting for years for its moment.

The Fumble is therefore not just a pedal, but a piece of guitar history: born from a mistake, loved by musicians, and with a sound that comes directly from the depths of the Dumble mythology - or rather, from a curious, historic JFET preamp.
