Das Pitchfork von EHX ist neben dem Whammy und dem TC Electronic Sub ‚N‘ up das wahrscheinlich beliebteste Pitch-Pedal, das es auf den Pedal-Boards der Welt gibt. Von einem Bekannten, der sich ausgiebig mit dem Löten von Pedalen beschäftigt, habe ich mir sagen lassen, dass der Bau eines wirklich sauber arbeitenden und verlässlich trackenden Pitch-Pedals alles andere als leicht ist. Und das kann man sich gut vorstellen: Viele Pitch-Pedale tracken irgendwie seltsam, klingen entweder im Clean- oder Gain-Bereich jeweils zu matschig und undifferenziert oder können mit bestimmten Frequenzbereichen nicht gut arbeiten. Selbst das von mir hochgeschätzte Red Panda Tensor hat viele Stärken – die Klarheit des Pitch-Effekts ist es nicht.

In dieser historisch akkuraten Nachbildung haben wir die Originalschaltung des 424 MKI perfekt nachgebildet und dabei die originalen UPC4570 und NJM4565 Operationsverstärker sowie alle originalen Regler verwendet. Die Gain-Regler (Trim, Channel) und der Master-Volume des Portastudio arbeiten alle zusammen, um den gewünschten Sound zu schaffen, und können mit den EQ-Einstellungen weiter verfeinert werden. Zusätzlich zum Klinkenausgang bietet das 424 Gain Stage einen symmetrischen XLR-Ausgang (DI-Out) für ultimative Flexibilität in jeder Situation, ob Live oder im Studio.

The 424 Gain Stage gives all the elastic, lo-fi tone you get from plugging a guitar rig straight into a TASCAM Portastudio 424. Now in pedal form, you can easily integrate the rubbery clean tones, high head room, and smashed out fuzz that’s being repopularized by today’s emerging guitarists.   
In this historically accurate recreation, we perfectly replicated the original 424 MKI circuit using the original UPC4570 and NJM4565 op-amps and all the original controls, which is crucial for recreating the unique character that makes the old units sound so good. The Portastudio’s gain controls (trim, channel) & master volume – all work in tandem for dialing up your desired tone and can be further refined with the Low and High EQ settings. In addition to the 1/4" output, our unit offers a balanced XLR output (DI out) for ultimate flexibility in any situation, live or studio.

Der Small Stone von Electro Harmonix ist ein Phaser-Pedal, das 1974 von David Cockerell entwickelt wurde. Im Gegensatz zu seinem Hauptrivalen, dem MXR Phase 90, der einen JFET-Transistor verwendet, um die Frequenz seiner vier Stufen zu variieren, ist seine Schaltung um einen Transkonduktanz-OP-Verstärker herum aufgebaut. Der Small Stone wurde unter anderem von David Gilmour und David Bowies Gitarristen Carlos Alomar verwendet und war von Anfang an ein großer Erfolg, so dass er noch immer im Katalog der in Long Island ansässigen Marke zu finden ist.

The Small Stone from Electro Harmonix is a phaser pedal that was developed by David Cockerell in 1974. Unlike its main rival, the MXR Phase 90, which uses a JFET transistor to vary the frequency of its four stages, its circuit is built around a transconductance op-amp. Used by David Gilmour and David Bowie's guitarist Carlos Alomar, among others, the Small Stone was a huge success from the start, so much so that it can still be found in the Long Island-based brand's catalog.

Die Schaltung verschiebt zwei Resonanzspitzen über das gesamte Frequenzspektrum, um sowohl Bass- als auch E-Gitarrensignalen vokalartige Formant-Filterstrukturen zu verleihen. Ein einzelner externer Regler steuert die Empfindlichkeit des internen Hüllkurvenfolgers, um anzupassen, wie leicht die Zwillingsfilter auslenken. Ein Schiebeschalter auf der Oberseite aktiviert eine aggressive, integrierte analoge Verzerrungsstufe, die darauf abgestimmt ist, die höheren Frequenzen zu beschneiden und obere Obertöne zu betonen. Built into the classic folded sheet-metal chassis, the original twin dynamic envelope filter uses two swept narrow-band filters tuned to separate frequencies that respond dynamically to instrument attack. The circuit shifts two resonant peaks across the tonal spectrum to impart vocal, formant-like filtering over both bass and electric guitar signals. A singular external control governs the sensitivity of the internal envelope follower to adjust how readily the twin filters sweep. A front-panel slide switch engages an aggressive integrated analog distortion stage voiced to clip the higher frequencies and accentuate upper harmonics. Dual internal trimpots calibrate the frequency sweep range of each individual resonant filter to adapt the response to specific instruments. Direct hardware switching passes the input signal to the output jack when the effect is disengaged.
