The Bassbone OD is a powerful two channel instrument preamp that is
able to handle all types of instruments, depending on how it is configured. 
Using the Bassbone OD is fairly straight forward. Each channel is equipped with a series of controls for volume, EQ and filtering so that each instrument or pickup type can be optimized for tone or accentuated for a specific need. One can select between channels using the A/B footswitch or combine the two channels when using an instrument that employs both magnetic and piezo transducers. What makes the Bassbone OD truly unique is the way it is able to incorporate effects pedals into the signal chain. These can be active all the time, bypassed using the overdrive footswitch, or combined with the built-in overdrive to create exciting new tones.

All boost is set by the Volume control. At the -18 dB setting, cranking Volume to full will deliver a similar level to bypass mode, allowing you to set the pedal to create distortion tones when on, while keeping your signal at the same volume whether the pedal is on or off. At the 0dB setting, the output level will increase as you turn up the Volume.

The One Control Sonic Silver Peg reproduces the sound of the iconic 100W 'V4' tube amplifier released by Ampeg in the 1970s. This highly responsive bass preamp is adaptable to any style of play and a perfect tool for any bass player. With a dynamic tone range similar to the original amp, the switch on the side of the enclosure allows for a cut of -15 dB. In addition, the Sonic Silver Peg has an active Mid knob that realizes a boost / cut of +/- 15 dB centered around 800 Hz. The Tone knob controls the low pass filter which can sweep from 300 Hz to 10 kHz. And, with the 0 dB / -15 dB switch, it is also possible to switch the sound of the two original inputs. Das One Control Butter Yellow Auto Quack (BYAQ) ist ein Envelope Filter / Auto Wah, das auf die Dynamik im Signal reagiert. Das BYAQ wurde von Bjorn Juhl speziell an die Range von E-Gitarren und E-Bässen angepasst und kommt mit einer schmaleren Range als vergleichbare Pedale. Über den seitlichen Mellow/Bright Schalter lässt sich wahlweise eine flache, schmale oder eine hohe, breite Filter Range auswählen. Das Pedal erzeugt musikalische Wah-Sounds und reagiert präzise für schnelle Rhythmus-Sequenzen. Mit dem Bias-Regler lässt sich der Startpunkt des Filters festlegen, Sensitivity bestimmt das Level, ab dem gespielte Noten den Filter triggern und Decay bestimmt wann der Filter schließt.

The One Control Butter Yellow Auto Quack (BYAQ) is an envelope filter / auto wah that reacts to the dynamics in the signal. The BYAQ was specially adapted by Bjorn Juhl to the range of electric guitars and electric basses and comes with a narrower range than comparable pedals. The Mellow/Bright switch on the side can be used to select a flat, narrow or a high, wide filter range. The pedal generates musical wah sounds and reacts precisely for fast rhythm sequences. The starting point of the filter can be set with the Bias control, Sensitivity determines the level from which played notes trigger the filter and Decay determines when the filter closes.

Mini Vintage Chorus

The micro-Thumpinator is a bandwidth optimizer designed for bass guitar. It removes the low frequency signals that are outside the range of notes produced by the instrument.

Infrasonic frequencies cannot be reproduced by standard bass cabinets but they often make amplifiers clip, especially when they are set to boost the lower frequencies. The Thumpinator filters the signal content optimising the energy delivered by the amplifier. Low-frequency clip is substantially reduced and the sound is tighter especially at high volume levels.

The micro-Thumpinator accepts instrument and line level signals. It can be used between preamplifier and amplifier, between bass and amplifier or anywhere in the effect chain (line or instrument level). It can also be connected directly to an audio interface.

Die New Yorker Company Aguilar ist seit 1995 nicht mehr aus der Szene wegzudenken. Damals war in der New Yorker Bassistenszene plötzlich ein Gerät einer noch unbekannten Marke in aller Munde: der Aguilar DB 680, ein Highend-Röhren-Preamp, welcher qualitativ höchsten Ansprüchen gerecht wurde und auf den Erfahrungen des professionellen Session-Bassisten Dave Boonshoft und des Amp-Spezialisten Alex Aguilar basierte. Beflügelt vom Erfolg des DB 680 und den positiven Rückmeldungen der Szene entstand zur damaligen Zeit die Firma Aguilar Amplification, die bis heute für edlen amerikanischen Basssound steht. Seit 1995 hat sich freilich sehr viel getan – vor allem wurde das Portfolio deutlich erweitert. Heutzutage baut Aguilar Amps, Boxen, Pickups, Elektroniken und Effektpedale. Und ein neuer Spross eben dieser Pedale liegt mir heute zum Test vor: der Grape Phaser!

The 4-stage analog Grape Phaser is a fairly simple pedal with just two dials: rate and color. It’s a solid, high-quality stompbox with a sturdy bypass switch and nice rubber control knobs. The pedal’s rate knob can take the speed of the modulation from a long and luxurious slow sweep all the way up to super-fast alien helicopter sounds. The color control feeds a portion of the signal back through the phase-shifting circuit. The Grape runs on 9V DC from your favorite universal power supply, but accepts a battery, too. The battery is accessed through a clever metal drawer that’s conveniently released with one Phillips screw. The pedal also features what Aguilar calls “gig-saver” bypass, which means if/when power to the pedal is lost, the signal is still passed through the bypassed pedal. I think that feature could really live up to its name! And, of course, the pedal is grape colored.
