Codename: Black Hat is a unique 3 transistor fuzz.  Two silicon, and one special germanium transistor... which around here we call The Black Hat.  Codename: Black Hat’s controls are simple, Volume and Fuzz. The Fuzz control is unique in that even at its lowest setting it still retains a bit of bite.  It might help to think of it not as a Fuzz control, but more of a character control where the real fuzz control is the volume knob on your guitar. Why not call it a Character Control?  You ask too many questions and that information is classified.

Roll your volume back on your guitar for an almost overdrive character perfect for rhythm playing.  Turn it up for leads. Do you have two volume controls on your guitar? Even better. Dial in a sweet overdriven tone on your neck pickup and then switch to your bridge at max volume for those fuzzier, crunchier rhythm tones, or even throw in some leads if the mood suits you.

Boris is a beastly guitar fuzz pedal whose roots lie in a particular 90’s 4 transistor Russian circuit. Dr Deiter Von FüzzBrauer was always mystified by the simple, yet devastating tones that could be achieved by this circuit. But there was always a problem, when this circuit was employed in a live setting the massive wall of fuzz would be buried under the bass, drums and anything else. Why? Well, each instrument occupies a particular frequency and the circuit scoops mids, and mids is where the guitar shines. These amazing tones that could be had are easily corrected in a recording mix, but what about the live players? No… this will not stand, Von FüzzBrauer had his quest. Create the thick and massive sought after tones but without the sacrifice of being lost in the live mix.

Boris - fuzz for the people

Introducing Ice Caves, an ambient reverb style pedal. This pedal can go from a surfy slap back sort of flavor all the way to a deep, dank, cavernous wall of modulated wash. The “Echo” control is a pre-delay to add some space before the reverberation kicks in. The “Depth” control fills in the sonic space with a touch of verb all the way to deep modulated reverberations. You can keep it light and airy by turning the “Brightness” control all the way up, or get dark and moody by turning it down. Now the funnest part of the pedal: The “Ice” knob. The “Ice” knob works in conjunction with the “Ambience” switch. “Ice” controls the amount feedback within the circuit and “Ambience” controls the feedback path. “Off” is well… off. No ice for you! “Reverb” loops the feedback through the whole circuit for an intense ambient background drone. “Delay” loops the feedback right out of the delay part of the circuit. Now we are getting crazy! You can almost use the pedal as a delay by turning the “Depth”all the way down, set the “Ambience” to “Delay” and turn the “Ice” knob up just a bit.
