The BOSS DS-1 is without a doubt one of the most famous distortion pedals out there.
Since the late ’70s and until today, this little orange pedal offers a compressed, British stack style distortion with an easy control layout – Distortion, Tone and Level.

The BOSS DS-1 is not a subtle pedal but not brutal either, it retains its characteristics with most type of pickups and it is really a great pedal for beginners and pros alike.

Der JHS Pedals Bender gibt Gitarristen den Touch, das Feeling und das Ansprechverhalten eines Vintage Germanium Fuzz mit der Genauigkeit und Beständigkeit von sorgfältig ausgewählten, modernen Silizium-Transistoren. Die Regelmöglichkeiten sind mit Volume, Tone und Attack denkbar einfach. Volume kontrolliert das Output Level, Tone bietet einen schönen Sweep von hellen zu eher dunklen Sounds, damit der Bender ohne Probleme mit allen denkbaren Tonabnehmern und Verstärkern harmoniert. Dabei bleibt der Tone-Regler so flexibel, dass sich unzählige klangliche Möglichkeiten umsetzen lassen, von den die meisten Fuzz-Nutzer nur träumen können. Attack regelt den Grad an Verzerrung - je weiter man den Regler aufdreht, desto mehr Fuzz erhält man. Über einen Schalter an der Seite lässt sich der einzigartige 'JHS Mode' aktivieren, der dem Sound mehr Gain und einen satten Boost in den Mitten gibt. Bei hohen Attack-Settings in diesem Modus erhält man je nach Anschlagstärke einen leichten Gated Fuzz Effekt. The JHS Pedals Bender is an attempt to recreate one of the most popular Tonebenders of all time: The 1973 MK3 Silver/Orange 'Onomatopoeia' version. The JHS Pedals Bender is a pedal that gives you the touch, feel, and response of the vintage germanium fuzz but with accuracy and consistency of carefully chosen modern silicon transistors. The controls are Volume, Tone, and Attack. Volume sets the overall output level of the effect; turn it up and things get louder. Tone lets you sweep between bright and dark tones so that the Bender works well with a range of different amplifiers and guitars. Attack is the distortion control, the more you turn it clockwise, the more fuzz you create. On the side you will see a 'Mode' button that lets you access a never-before-heard 'JHS Mode'. Push that button for more gain and a mid frequency boost to send you leads soaring through the mix. With higher Attack settings in this mode, you will feel the fuzz slightly gate depending on your picking dynamics. If you want a fuzz that can go from middle of the road crunch distortion to full out aggression, the Bender is for you. The tone control is extremely flexible and allows for dozens of sonic variations that most fuzz users only dream about. Es widmet sich der Erzeugung von Rückkopplungen, die zwar zum Repertoire jedes gepflegten (Rock-) Gitarristen gehören, aber üblicherweise nur mit entsprechender Lautstärke und der Interaktion zwischen Amp, Box und Gitarre möglich sind. Mit dem E-Bow, der seit Mitte der 70er Jahre erhältlich ist, gibt es bereits ein Werkzeug, das die Saiten per Magnetfeld beliebig lang in Schwingung versetzt, indem es über die gewünschte Saite gehalten wird. Oder den Sustainer von Fernandes, ein Pickup, der ebenfalls die Saiten zum Schwingen bringt, wenn er per Schalter dazu aufgefordert wird. Und natürlich muss beim Umbau der Gitarre einer der vorhandenen Tonabnehmer dem Sustainer weichen.

Die Wren and Cuff Box of War ist eine Neuauflage der Originalversion, die ursprünglich im Jahr 2012 veröffentlicht wurde. Die Box of War ist eine detailgetreue Nachbildung der berühmten 'Civil War' Fuzz Pedale aus den 90ern und Wren and Cuff ist stolz darauf, die Vintage Pedale, die sie nachbauen, bis ins kleinste Detail zu analysieren, um alle Aspekte der Original-Schaltung nach besten Kräften absolut exakt zu duplizieren und sie haben keine Mühen gescheut, um diesen seltenen, beliebten, aber billig hergestellten, berühmten Fuzzer zu erforschen. Die Box of War verfügt über ein robustes Gehäuse wie die alten russischen Fuzz Pedale, kommt aber in einem kleineren Chassis und nutzt moderne Fertigungstechniken, um den Ansprüchen moderner Pedalboards gerecht zu werden. Das Pedal erzeugt einen etwas dunkleren und etwas 'fuzzigeren' Tone als die berühmten Tall Font Fuzz Pedale und im Vergleich zu anderen Muffs hat die Box of War weniger Output und ist auch weniger 'fuzzy', aber sie fängt das einzigartige 'holzige' Sustain und die Präsenz des original 'Civil War' Pedals perfekt ein. Nicht ohne Grund wurde die Original-Version für viele Musiker auf der ganzen Welt zur Geheimwaffe und mit der Box of War fängt Wren and Cuff diesen Sound, das Feeling und den Ton perfekt ein.

The Wren and Cuff Box of War is a reissue of the original version that was originally released in 2012. The Box of War is a true recreation of the famous 'Civil War' fuzz pedals from the '90s and Wren and Cuff prides themselves on truly digging into the vintage units they recreate and go to great lengths to duplicate all aspects of the original circuits to the best of their ability, and they have spared nothing in researching this rare, much-loved, but cheaply made famous fuzzer. The Box of War features a heavy-duty enclosure like the old Russian fuzz pedals but with a smaller footprint and of course super high-quality engineering. The pedal creates a bit darker and a bit fuzzier tone than the famous Tall Font fuzz pedals and compared to other Muffs, the Box of War has less output and is also less fuzzy, but it captures the unique woody sustain and presence of the original 'Civil War' pedal perfectly. There is a good reason why the original version became a secret weapon for many musicians around the world and the Wren and Cuff Box of War captures that sound, feeling and tone perfectly.

Die japanische Firma Zoom ist ja allseits bekannt durch ihre zumeist sehr günstig angebotenen Effektprozessoren. Begonnen hatte alles vor gut 20 Jahren, als die damals noch junge Company mit ihren miniaturisierten Geräten, wie etwa dem Modell 9002, die Fachwelt in Staunen versetzte. Eine komplette Gitarrenvorstufe mit allen erdenklichen Effekten in der Größe einer Jumbo Zigarettenschachtel – so etwas hatte es bis dato noch nicht gegeben. Doch im Kapitalismus schläft ja die Konkurrenz bekanntlich nie und so standen die Geräte von Zoom stets mehr oder weniger im Schatten der marktbeherrschenden Firmen, allen voran natürlich BOSS oder DigiTech. Zumindest im Pro-Sektor, denn unter den „einfachen Bodentretminen“ für günstiges Geld findet man zumeist etwas Passendes im Angebot bei Zoom. Eine Art „einfache Bodentretmine“ ist auch unser heutiges Testmodell, das Zoom Multistomp MS-50G. Obwohl das vielleicht nicht ganz der Wahrheit entspricht, denn in dem unscheinbaren Gehäuse in Form und Aussehen eines einfachen Single-Effektpedals versteckt sich durchaus mehr.
